433 might be a system that can get the best out of Llorente as well. 4 wide players including the full backs to put balls into the box for him, and then you have the two wingers (Lucas and Lamela in this instance) who can come narrow and run off him if need be as well. I was impressed.

A nice result to wake up to.

It wasn’t mentioned at all last season but llorente didn’t get a preseason under Poch. If people think Aurier will improve one then surely the same applies to llorente?

Despite it being a meaningless preseason friendly obviously.

Very enjoyable game.

Vorm 5 - Kicking a bit ropey.
Aurier 7 - Liked his performance, lots of energy and a fair bit of end product, lovely cross for Moura goal. Poor in build up to goal.
Walker-Peters 7 - Kept them stretched with lots of dangerous running on his less favoured side.
Carter-Vickers 6 - Ok performance, looked a little heavy legged at times, could have maybe blocked the goal twice but that might be harsh.
Davies 5 - Struggled I felt, quite a few mistakes and clearances charged down, failed to block goal also
Amos 8 - Really impressive performance, helped control the midfield in first half, took responsibility receiving the ball in tight spots and popping it off to team mate. Only misplaced a couple, covered a lot of ground and looked quite stylish with it adding tempo to our play with the weight of his passes.
Sissoko 6 - His running and physical presence helped us boss the game and unsettle Roma. Led some rapid breaks in the first half. Maybe some blame for goal conceeded.
Lamela 7 - Really good first half with quick creative forward passes and crosses, leading to goals, faded a bit in the second as we had less of the ball.
Eriksen 6 - Little bit quiet by his standards but class still evident, lovely long range shot off post.
Moura 9 - Looked fabulous, two very different, but class finishes. Lots of good close control when dribbling and incisive passing to boot.
Llorente 8 - Great header for goal one and poaching for goal two. Hold up play also very helpful to our shape and allowed us to sustain attacks in first half.

Subs

Son 5 - Struggled to get into game didn’t hold up ball as well as Llorente. Some neat touches here and there.
Skipp 6 - Could see little flashes of his ability.
Gazzaniga 7 - Tidy saves when required.

Sanchez, Georgiou, Nkoudu and Marsh came on late but saw little of the ball, as we sat on our lead and the game became fragmented.

Thoughts

1. While they are both rather unloved by our fanbase Sissoko and Llorente are very sold players who can make vital contributions to a premier league squad. I’d have no issue with keeping both.
2. Moura really could be like a new signing if he can repeat that level when it matters, I'll say this very quietly but he reminded me of Salah today.
3. We have to find a way to give Walker-Peters 20 odd games next season. Was great fun having two quick wingbacks.
4. Amos looks a talent and a hard worker. Suspect we'll get a few more loan inquiries now.
5. We are a very good side, no matter how the transfer window goes we have so much to enjoy here already.

Wow does no one read the comments anymore?

Same questions over and over

TBH mate I'd just finished a 12 and a half hour shift, got home, checking out the days spurs news and instead of scrolling through loads of posts thought it would be easier to ask, knowing some kind soul would reply quickly.

Not that it really matters that much but how are we 3rd? We have the same points, better goal difference and have scored more than Juventus who are 2nd.

Tie breakers procedures are as follows:
  1. Head to Head
  2. Goal Difference
  3. Goals For
  4. Goals Conceded
  5. Result Against Common Opponent
  6. Least Amount of Red Cards Issued to the Team (Includes Technical Staff)
  7. Least Amount of Yellow Cards Issued to the Team (Includes Technical Staff)
  8. Least Amount of Fouls Committed – Tournament Aggregate Total
  9. Coin Flip
So clearly the table you've seen is wrong.

All four goals were good one way or another

Great tenacity in winning the ball back for the first
Well worked set piece for the second with a lovely cross and run
Peach of a cross from Aurier for the third
Lovely shimmy from Lucas before the fourth

But the best thing that could happen really was for Lucas and Llorente to grab goals for us. We know there's still a player in Llorente, if he can stay confident he'll be a much better option than last season. And I think Lucas is going to have a huge season.

Amos is an interesting one. Stevenage fan I follow on twitter said he’s the best player he’s seen in a Stevenage shirt. Yeah I know Stevenage but still decent praise.

I think pretty much every season under Poch has shown that a full pre-season is so often the catalyst for a player to have a good season. I really hope for Lucas, Lamela, Llorente and Aurier all to step up a notch or two.

In fact he didn't have any sort of pre-season, because he broke his arm on holiday I think. With his size and frame, you could tell that he wasn't at his sharpest.

I don’t think we should sell him, he wasn’t used properly when he came on last season either. Doubt we’d get much cash for him anyway.

The new shape used today (something Poch briefly mentioned in his presser) is very promising. I'm hoping it's a thing and not just a way of using the weakened squad he has there.

Sounds like Poch's take on the City/Pool style. If he can adapt something as well as his Chelsea inspired 3-4-2-1 from the second half 16/17 (I believe we did it better than Chelsea but had too much to do) we could be in for a really fun season.

Makes sense as to why we are looking to stock up with another dynamic attacker if Eriksen and possibly Dele could be playing deeper. Son, Lucas, Lamela +1 (Martial/Zaha type) is perfect depth for the two wide areas, and gives us fantastic sub options.

I agree in principle - unless we can replace then we need some sort of cover up top. I was also frustrated with how he was used when brought into the fold last year. Perhaps pre-season will sharpen him up a bit and we can still get some use from him.

Very much upgradable as a squad option but we need that squad option.

Quite conflicted on buying a new CM now. With so much potential in winks Onomah Amos TOB Skipp it’s slmost tempting to give dembele one more season and let the rest fight it out to see if one can really step up. Although winks is the most likely be interesting to see if any of the others could stake a serious claim. Just so much more satisfying than spunking £50m on someone.
