There are a lot of different scenarios regarding Europa League qualification this year and we're seeing lots of the same questions popping up (and being given wrong answers).

We've made this graphic to try and outline all the possibilities and what they'd mean for us. The info originally came from Mark (Rosie on FTL) but @chrissivad has adapted it into a nice graphic. Feel free to share it with people.

Of course, we may well go on to win it this year so this is all moot as we'll be in the Champions League!

It's crazy isn't it, why is qualification so, so complicated??? Really miss the simplicity of the European Cup, Cup Winners Cup and the Uefa. And they all meant something.

So we're pretty much 100% qualified for Europa League, so for those numpties saying "Focus on the League!" and screw Europa, I'd say that we have a better chance of beating 4 teams over 2 legs and 1 team in the final than getting 4th competing with Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool and Saints.

Yeah, we fucked up against Fiorentina, but if Poch played his best side and they reproduced Chelsea/Arsenal form for our home tie, I'd say we'd easily beat most of the competition. Second stringers can have a run out against like Burnley and Leicester in the League.

Am I right in thinking that by getting to the final against Chelsea, win or lose, we will qualify for Europa league?

Look at the image! :)

We do not qualify for EL if:

We finish 8th or lower and Chelsea win League cup
We finish 7th, Chelsea win the League Cup and the FA Cup winners finish 8th or lower.

What happens if we get to the final and finish 6th but it's won by a team who qualify for the champions league through their league position. Do we get the extra champions league spot that the Europa cup has? Or do we stay in the Europa next season?

Only the team that wins the Europa will get CL as far as i know. The extra place wont get passes on to the runners up.

There's one possibility that's missing from this chart. Spurs finish in 4th, the Champions League is won by Arsenal who finish in 5th or lower, and the Europa League is won by Liverpool or Everton who also finish in 5th or lower. If that albeit somewhat unlikely chain of events were to occur, we'd go into the Europa League Group Stage.

Hate to pick holes but if the FA cup winner is in top four the Europa place goes to the runner up (this doesn't happen with lge cup but does with FA cup i.e. Hull this season)

Basically
7 teams in Europe (8 if champs lge or Europa lge winner is not in top 7)
4 x champs lge
1 x Europa lge via lge finish
1 x FA cup winners (runner up if winner has already qualified via lge, if both have qualified via lge finish then extra place goes to next lge finish)
1 x Lge cup winner (if winner has already qualified via lge extra place goes to next lge finish)
