    SPURS NEWS:

Tottenham have ruled out selling Jermain Defoe in the January transfer window.

    Source: Sky Sports

Defoe's future at White Hart Lane has been the subject of intense speculation for some time as he struggles to hold down a place in Martin Jol's starting XI.

Manchester United have been linked with the England international, but Tottenham technical director Damien Comolli insists Defoe is going nowhere.

"There is no possibility at all that he will go in January," said Comolli.

"I can rule out any move for him. I don't agree that he plays fewer games because the stats show he has started a lot of times. Jermain is part of the club.

"He scored one the other week and two during our European fixture in midweek, so he is not going anywhere. We know his qualities and that is why he is part of the future of the club.

"There is no price tag at all."

Comolli also revealed funds will be made available to Jol to strengthen the squad in January.

"Players want to come here because we are competitive and we can be in the top five," added Comolli.

"That is why we managed to attract good players in the summer.

"If we see an opportunity to improve the squad in January then we will do it. But if there is no opportunity then we won't be buying."

Please let this put an end to all the rumours..........

After hearing from Defoe himself in the news that he has no reason to move (quality of players at the club, friendly atmosphere, and the fact that he is playing and scoring regularly again) and the club's announcement today that he will not be leaving in the January transfer window (would have preferred to hear that he would not be leaving full stop!), I hope this means that the media will move on to some other story, though perhaps that is just wishful thinking. Guess next rumour will be that Robbie is unhappy now that Defoe has taken his place and may possibly have been responsible for him picking up an injury at this important time of the year!:bang: :bang: :bang:

Let's take the 3 points today and then we can try to get on with the important business of hauling ourselves up the league table (not so far from CL spot are we, despite all the doom and gloom from some supporters?). 2-1 to give us our first away win of the season will do me nicely!

OK so Defoe has said it and now the club have come out and said it. But will it stop the Journo's? No chance but it might slow the rumours down for a while.

And for those people calling for a bid for Gareth Bale, the Mirror is reporting Manure are ready to bid £7m for him, which I think most of us would feel is daft, but the way he has started this season it may not be.

i dont see any reason he would want to leave

good to see he and the club feel the same

They'll just start up with the "Keane unsettled/wants a move" rumours instead.

I give it 5 days. See if I'm right.

No, the Keano rumours won't start while he's injured. He was in possession of the starting spot much of the time, so why would he be looking to ship out?

Some of these journalists are so stupid that they've been publishing "Keane squeezed out by Defoe" stories already, since he's been injured.

Of course Keane doesn't want to "ship out". But that's not going to stop the journos from stirring it.

The thing is, David, that neither a "he's staying" or a "he's going" article has any intrinsic value. It's all about context, and we have to take our own best guesses.

In this context, it looks quite clear. Defoe's denials are pretty unequivocal, he's in the team and on his best form in years, and the club have been pretty unequivocal too. But let's not forget that we listened to offers for him in the summer and last January too (if Benitez is to be believed). Every player has his price.

Let's not forget too that we spent all summer denying that Carrick would leave. It's what you do to push the price up.

Yes, journalists can be very stupid, and no, I don't think anyone will leave Spurs in January except maybe fringe players like Murphy or Gardner. But I don't think we should make assumptions in general based on "Defoe: I'll Stay" asa headline.

A clever exposure of Defoe in the media, no doubt engineered by his agent. We'll see how he gets on in the absence of Keane, though I hear he wasn't all that good against a poor Man City defence yesterday.
I don't believe the hype, whether it's from the media or Defoe's agent or both. A commitment to stay is no guarantee these days and could just as easily be a sly form of advertising, as well as an attempt to put pressure on Jol via the media (and the fans influenced by the media). After all Defoe indicated he'd stay 'until we win silverware', which is not exactly loyal dedication to the club in the long term is it?
What's more important is the statement by the club that he's going nowhere in January; and what else could they say given Keane's injury?
I'm not doing down Defoe; it's just that we shouldn't read too much into the publicity actions of his agent or the entirely pragmatic position of the club.
