The Transfer Rumours Forum has pretty strict rules, no talk about players if no ITK and no player thread if no press link. So I think we need a place in Spurs Chat where we can discuss players we think should be on our radar screen. Perhaps this can become a sticky, I leave that to the mods.

We have some posters on here who seem to watch a lot of non Spurs football and other leagues and appear pretty well informed e.g. Snarlificous, Thowig and Dinpomp to name a few. I find their thoughts on who we should be looking at really interesting and hope we can get their views, and others in this thread.

So to our current needs which seems that we all agree we need either or both a top line striker and / or a creative midfielder. I'll leave out any player with a thread in Transfer Rumours and obvious "never gonna happens" like Neymar. A few names from me to kick this off:

Serie A - Stevan Jovetic, great player, possibly out of our reach although not in the Cavani / Falcao league yet.

Russia - Seydou Doumbia, must confess not seem much of him but his stats are pretty impressive.

Anyway, as I said I'm not as clued up as others so really just wanted to get the ball rolling.

I think that's the wrong place for it as many, like me, don't go there. How about we give it a go in here ? Any gems for us from the Bundesliga or elsewhere ?

There are lots of young, talented players that could be had for a good deal. Unfortunately, most would be slight gambles or squad players for the time being. Most of these players still need some polishing. Only complete, young players in the bundesliga will either stay there or will cost north of 10m. There are some players I think we should consider, outside of Son (who we have been linked to, and I love!).

CHEAP/FUTURE:

Moritz Leitner
-Plays for Borussia Dortmund
-They just sold Perisic, but still have more than enough young talent in the midfield that Leitner is not utilized.
-Is 20, plays as a CM/CAM playmaker
-Would still be cheap, less than 5m Euros I suspect
-A player that could be a real star one day, he is very skilled, and has great vision.
-He does need to get stronger.
-He's one of those players that can hold onto the ball all game if he wanted to.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga
-Plays for Hertha BSC, in second tier of Bundesliga
-Plays for U21 national team
-A very good finisher that will be picked by a larger team soon.
-He's a player that could blow-up into a star when he gets in a team with more talent.
-had an injury that put him out for half the season recently
-decent goal scoring record, could be something and could be had for less than 5m Euros

Lars Stindl
-Plays for Hannover
-Hasn't been constantly chosen for German U21 team
-Plays as CM/RM
-Would be cheap, around 3-4m, but is 24.
-Would make a good depth signing, but probably not what we are looking for.
-Was spoken of highly a few seasons ago, but he hasn't had the expected impact

FIRST TEAM READY:

Andre Schurrle
-Plays for Bayer Leverkusen
-His value really shot up this year, he has been doing very well.
-now plays for German National Team
-Plays across the front 3 in a 4-3-3, can play both wings and as CF.
-Would work very well in our system, as he could be slotted as a CAM and has the ability to switch with Lennon and Bale on the wings.
-Guy has a lethal long shot.
-Would cost around 20m Euros, but would be worth it

Julian Draxler
-Plays for Shalke
-Keeps getting better, he plays across the entire midfield, as a outside mid/wing or a cam
-Has a few appearances with German national team, but hasn't broken into it as a consistent starter
-His value is still to shoot up, it's a good time to buy him.
-He would also be able to play the middle of the field and exchange with both wings.
-The guy has some beautiful skill moments and lots of control on the ball. He is a bit selfish, but he could spark lots of goals.
-Could probably get him for around 13-15m Euros

I would love either of these guys here but pretty sure we have no chance, Draxler is seen as Germany's next big talent for a year or two now and now that we got Holtby, Schalke wont let him go imo.

As for Schurrle it seems Chelsea are long standing admirers of him as well as other clubs looking interested

You don't hear much about him, is he still at Hoffeinmeim?
He only joined Hoffenheim in the summer from 1860. Been pushed out to the left for god knows what reason but he is up near the top of the league with assists.

Jovetic for me plays best behind a striker, if he isn't sold in the summer then he'll play behind (hopefully) a fully Rossi.

Add Kevin De Brunye to the list, no idea where he'd fit in but he's talented and won't get the playing time he requires if he goes back to Chelsea.

Have you seen a lot of Aspas? I've been trying to.

not too much, but from what i have seen he is techically good, fast and a good finisher. He is light however, and 25 so probably reaching his peak in the next 18-24 months. Not as good as Defoe i would say but would be good for the likes of Swansea or Southampton

Thanks guys, the Bundesliga stuff in particular is very interesting. I think the most exciting talent in that league is Reus, not sure he would leave Germany but doubt he was even on our radar screen last summer / Jan (I think he agreed the nice in Jan and actually moved in June).

Any experts on South American football ?

It looked like Kevin was going to be pushed in to the CM role but it has been clear that this season he has been used in the 3 but I expect Marin to go back to Bremen and Kevin the other

I actually like the look of Piazon at Chelsea who again plays in the same position

Reus, No chance of him leaving tbh, as for him being the most exciting talent, I would disagree because I would say he is a star and no longer a talent tbh, but germany most definitely are having a golden generation with alot of interesting players coming through like one or two I saw at Bayern's academy, cant remember names atm

To clarify on Reus I meant before he went to Dortmund, agree that now he is a star and as difficult to get as Goetze.

Fair enough but Germany seems to be growing but there are experiencing or will experiance are a huge influx of top quality players as for Gotze, he was available before his good form lately albeit for crazy money as he was struggling to get in the dortmund side at the beginning of the season due to coach being unhappy with him apparently

That's going to be a hell of a combination if Rossi gets back to his best. Jovetic is fantastic and would be absolutely ideal for Spurs. Creative and a goal threat, but way too much money for us I think.

Lorenzo Melgarejo. Benfica LB/LM/LW. 22 years old, starting LB for Benfica.

He used to play LW/ST for Benfica when he first arrived but he's now playing LB full-time. I think he's best in attack, but he's still improving as a defender who due to his history as an attacker is so difficult to account for.

Pace, strength, I think he's flat out awesome.

Every time I watch Benfica, Melgarejo has bombing runs forward, distributes well, and despite previously being a LW, his defensive skills continue to get better and better.

Some older clips of him (I think about 2 years now since they are from his Paco de Ferreira days when he played all over the attacking front:
