This morning, as part of my business, had a meeting with a fund manager with Artemis, who works with the UK Smaller Companies fund.
The meeting was about investment in general, but one of the men I was talking to, commented on the fact that I was wearing a Spurs tie. Obviously the conversation got onto Jol and Ramos and this fund manager bloke, told me he had been at Tottenham four weeks previously, to discuss the possibility of buying shares in the club for Artemis. I'm not talking small bucks here, the volume discussed was around 100,000 shares.
So to cut a long meeting short, Artemis have not bought any shares at the moment as they feel they were vastly overvalued at £1.50 (today £1.60), but may wait until they fall back later in the year. So far as takeover talk was concerned, it's not going to happen before the end of the season.

This might all be obvious to some ITK's on the site, but it was interesting for me to talk to someone involved in meeting with the club's directors within the last few weeks.

100,000 shares is a 0.05% stake in the club.

[Well, according to the Articles anyway -- 200,000,000 OS and 60,000 Conv/Redeemable PS]

Why would anyone go to Tottenham to buy 100,000 shares in Tottenham Hotspur Plc? Couldn't they have talked to their broker and set an upper limit on the amount they were prepared to pay for such a small amount for any company to buy? As Stoof has pointed out this is of no significance in terms of a powerful presence in Tottenham's shares (though he's referred to the Authorised Share Capital rather than the more appropriate Issued Share Capital, which is somewhat less than stated).

Ah good shout. I thought that figure sounded wrong. It's something like 96,000,000 issued.

Artimis wouldn't want to be a "powerful presence" their business is share dealing, not football. These fund managers are not interested in taking power, just making money.

Also, if there was a takeover Artimis would have nothing to do with it.
