    RUMOURS

Spurs are being linked with a move for Anderlecht defender, Anthony Vanden Borre.

    source - all3points

The 19 year old star has won many admirers for his performances this season for Anderlecht and has been attracting a host of Europe's top clubs.

Spanish club Real Betis were thought to be favourites for his signature but reports of an unnamed English club entering the chase have thrown doubt on a move to Spain.

Claims in Belgium are suggesting that the unnamed English side is Tottenham and that they will challenge Betis for the young defender's signature when the transfer window reopens in January.

    Hurrah!

All the FM players can now get very over-excited about this potential signing!

My brother is so into his football manager that he text me last week to tell me Vanden Borre scored a goal.

    Yes please!

He's young and reportedly quite talented. Probably not going to happen, though...

Would be a fantastic signing, would prefer Micah Richards, but we won't get this guy either, most top clubs are after him...
  4. dirtydave
thanks a lot, im now playing FM after weaning myself off it for 6 weeks. i thought i'd beaten the habit.

he's very talented but has been known in the past to also be a bit lazy and to think he can do everything and therefore doesn't have to try too hard.

mind you, him in and stalteri out and we wont have done badly.

The problem with buying players to cover for others is that if they're good, as this guy reputedly is, they won't come to play reserve football, and if they're ready to be second choice it's probably because they are either very young or because they ar not quite good enough.

If we have three top quality central defenders, all of them will play plenty of matches. We're in 4 competitions, we're playing twice a week and there are always injuries and suspensions.

Same as we are finding with our four strikers. Plenty of game time to go around.

He's an exceptional talent.... however, its complete twaddle as he plays in chimbonda's postion mostly, a right or wing back. I don't think he slots into the center.

The Wikipedia entry on him says: "Vanden Borre is also a popular player among those who play the football managing game Football Manager 2006, as he can be bought for a relatively cheap price and trained into one of the world's best right/center backs."

Anyways, his form this year has apparently been pretty awful this year, and he hasnt improved much in the last two years. He even said when linked to Betis, who are struggling pretty badly in la liga and are strong relegation candidates, "It shows I'm not doing that badly after all. I'm glad with the interest shown. If they approach me, I won't say no. Betis is a very nice club after all,"
Thats not the quality we need.

There's a difference between being given a few games against people like MK Dons and Port Vale and being a first team regular. A couple of seasons ago we tried to buy Reo Coker, but he went instead to W Ham, a division below us, because he wanted regular first team football. Who would say it was the wrong choice considering the his career has developed?

i bought this guy when playing LMA manager 05 two years ago thinking he was one of the computer generated players... nearlyfell of my seat when i read this thread.(he was undroppable on LMA for 15 years:wink: ) well worth signing imo.
  12. infamousyiddo
is he well worth signing because he is good or because he is good on LMA and FM. To be honest whenever I Play FM van den borre and vincent kompany are the first players I try to sign everytime, but i'm not sure how good he really, what ive seen from him in the CL he aint all that
  13. sweetness
I always buy both of them during the first season when I play
  14. adamsilver
Ha ha, I havent played football manager for over a year...but I remember the last time i played, the first players i brought were walcott, vanden borre, pisculichi, adu, kompany, vitti amongst others :)
  15. sweetness
Walcott the dirty young sod always refused to come to me in FM05  What? Do you need to offer wages?

If we're having a "who to buy on FM" thingy going on, I have some more tips (assuming you have FM 2006):
Nik Besagno (DC/DM, Salt Lake, work permit difficult to get first two seasons, but becomes class)
Eddie Gaven (AM, MetroStars, USA, work permit no prob)
    Per Ciljan Skjelbred (AM, Rosenborg)
    Tomas Sivok (DM, Sparta Prague)
Angelos Basinas (DM, free transfer when game starts, picked him up with Fiorentina, player of the season in Italy in first year)

not sure whether or not we really want Vanden Borre...doens't seem, how to say it..., professional enough.
