    RUMOURS:

Tottenham Hotspur have joined the chase for Excelsior’s 19-year-old midfielder Luigi Bruins, according to Dutch media reports.

    Source: Eurosport

Spurs technical director Damien Comolli was at the Dutch side's Woudestein stadium on Sunday to watch the youngster in Excelsior's Eredivisie clash with Ajax.

Bruins had little chance to shine as his Excelsior were reduced to ten men, and eventually went down 3-1, though he is nonetheless regarded as one of the most promosing players in the league.

Feyenoord, Tottenham's opponents in the next round of the UEFA Cup, are said to be tracking the player too, as well as Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven, though AZ Alkmaar are leading the race for the player's signature, and are reportedly keen to tie up a deal in the January transfer window.

All the Dutch topclubs are chasing at him, great player.... Andwele Slory from Excelsior is also someone we should track carefully. That guy will be the next Dutch wonderboy, because off him excelsior is 13th in the league, otherwise they would be last.

You're right, all the big clubs in Holland are chasing Luigi Bruins; he's a real playmaker and a big talent, and for Slory, 24, I have to admit that he's an attacker as fast as Marc Overmars.

But I think he already has an agreement with Feyenoord.

They're bot not expensive and if I was Spurs I would take a gamble.
  3. StuckinPoland
Isnt Excelsior part of Feyenoord anyway? When I lived in Holland all of Feyenoord's better youth players were sent to play at Execlsior for a season as part of their development.

I should imagine that Feyenoord would get first dibs.

    But who knows.
  4. OrangeTHFC
    You stand correct.
Excelsior has a partnership with Feyenoord, but at the end it's up to the player (and his manager) to have an agreement or not, and sources tell me Luigi Bruins is not willing to join Feyenoord!!
As far as I know Slory is signing a contract in a few weeks.

^ lol last post is a tad random. Never heard of this dutch guy, but its good we're looking at players from all leagues and its about time we tapped into the dutch market.

Gareth Bale and one of Taylor/Bridge are the only two signings we should make this Jan. To get Bale would be a really good indication of the direction Spurs want to head in. Beckham is a target that the Spurs of old would have wanted - MJ's Spurs need to find their own Beckham.
  7. Pillbug
Matt Taylor's price tag is going to be inflated at this point, given his recent form. Wish we'd dived for him before....

At the risk of stating the bleedin' obvious, if you think we should be discovering our own Beckham, then we shouldn't be signing Gareth Bale.

Because Southampton have already discovered him.

Matthew "Matty" Taylor (born November 27, 1981 in Oxford, England) is an English football (soccer) player. He currently plays for Portsmouth F.C. as a left-sided defender and/or attacking midfielder.
Matthew grew up in Abingdon, near Oxford, and was a keen schools and boys football player, winning the Vale of the White Horse Schools Cup in 1995 at under 13 level, and reaching the final of the Oxfordshire County Schools Cup in the same year, with John Mason School. He was a boyhood Tottenham supporter, which has no doubt helped to fuel transfer speculation linking him with a move to White Hart Lane.
In the 2005/2006 season, Taylor played on the left wing or at left back for Portsmouth. He played 34 games in the FA Premier League, scoring six goals - making him the highest scoring left back in the competition. Two of these were crucial penalties; one in the last minute against Sunderland to secure a 2-1 win, and another in an away game at Wigan Athletic to clinch another 2-1 win and survival from relegation.
His good form has brought alleged interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham, but he signed a long term contract with Portsmouth in July 2006.

Shame he as signed a long term contract, but we should use the carrick money say, 10 million of it for this guy, left back who scores goals, we paid the money for Chimbonda and he is worth the money.

Taylor is worth no more than £4 million. £10 million would be a joke and a total waste of money. He has scroed some nice goals, but overall he isn't the greatest LB. His defensive game isn't particuarly good. Chimbonda is a far suprior player at RB compared to Taylor at LB.
  11. OrangeTHFC
He's looking good on that video; in particular his freekicks what was the main part....

Maybe there's more to tell about his functional technique (not the showboating), intelligence, speed and personality? And is he two-footed?
Items most coaches care about I know.
  12. markspurs
got to get gareth bale he is the next theo walcott
  13. Arjuanchivas
Yes; Excelsior is part of Feyenoord.. Slory wants to go to Feyenoord. Bruins not.. so there is a chance!!!
