I think onomah would have a more of a chance of a pl loan, cos we've already blooded him. Many posters on here don't want the kids to play until they've been loaned. I look at it a different way, I think we should give them a few games then look to loan them out.

Surely it stands to reason that if we're prepared to give them game time other clubs might too, rather than just take someone that's played no competitive football at all. Why should we expect other pl clubs to take a chance on them if we aren't prepared too.

Extreme example but how many pl clubs would have took rashford on loan 3-4 months ago? How many would now?

not really as he's our player and we stand to benefit long term if he makes the grade. there's no reason for another club to help bring through one of our players unless they've shown to be a level above what that club have/can attract and so far onomah hasn't. no pl clubs would have taken rashford 4 months ago but since then he's played a lot of games and made a big impact, onomah has done ok in the limited time he's had but not enough for a pl team to trust him.

No real surprises there

oops quoted the wrong post hahahaha

Emmanuel Sonupe, Armani Daly, Charlie Hayford and Chris Paul released by the club

I hope the schooling they have had here at The Spurs stands them in good stead and they end up having decent careers/futures.

All the best, lads!

If there was a surprise it's be Sonupe for me. His trajectory a few years back suggested he'd make the grade, what happened to him? I had a few queries about attitude but I thought the rest was reasonably sound for a young player.

I think he'll definitely get another shot elsewhere

Just out of interest, who would you have added to that list?

I think we all would have added Walkes. Personally, I'd have added Georgiou, Goddard and Voss. Not that I have anything against them or that they've been especially awful, just that I've seen enough to feel that they won't play professional football and as such they're blocking the route of others who might.

I totally agree on Georgiou and Voss. Goddard I think might be worth hanging onto for another year - he's not a player that I think will make it with Spurs, but I think he could have a Lameiras-esque career and therefore could hold some sell-on value eventually. Joe Pritchard I think got the sympathy vote due to his long absence, and I can't argue with that too much.

I don't hold too much hope long-term for some of the other second years (Loft, Owens, Stylianides, McDermott, Muscatt, Tracey), but I have no problem with us giving them all another year of a scholarship (or pro deal in Tracey's case) to see what happens. Apparently the academy staff wanted pro deals for Owens and Stylianides, but Pochettino wasn't on board with it.

Pritchard isn't, lets face it, going to make it here, but you can't help but love him. He just has a style that endears him to you. I would be totally fine him hanging around for another year or two to see if he can reach League two level.
I look at Goddard and I see a whole host of other youngsters like him who were technically very good but didn't have size or pace. In this country that is a major, and I do mean major, obstacle. There aren't many hiding places in professional football for players like that. Kenny McEvoy was just released by York, who were relegated form League 2, because they thought he was just too small and lightweight. McEvoy has more about him than Goddard because Pace is a more bankable assett than what Goddard has which is a good short range passing game. I like Goddard, always have, but its just the harsh reality.

As for the 2nd years I have spoken before about my disappointment with Loft's development. He's got something but I just feel its going to waste. I think if he played in a Championship academy he'd already be making the bench for their first team. At that level they're not as bothered about a poor touch. If Loft was at, say, Ipswich, they'd just play to his strengths (strength and power) rather than try to turn him into an all round forward which is what we seem to be doing with him. There's nothing wrong with Ryan Loft, he's just in the wrong youth set-up. Owens, Stylianides & Muscatt just haven't improved much. They all looked very decent as U16s but you can't be the same player two years later and not have questions asked. I've only seen flashes of Tracey and he looks all about pace, power and directness which is a promising combo. McDermott isn't up to standard and will be wasting his time and ours if he signs on for another year.

So the Premier League retained/released list confirms that Edwards is still just a scholar. Still no sorting of a contract for the lad, surely this situation has to come to a head soon?

That worried me also. Really hope we keep him but if we cant tie him up someone else will and it will be a huge loss.

That's if we are one of the clubs invited. 16 academies out of the 21 category 1 academies get invited. I'd love for us to play in that competition so if we do get the invite I hope we accept.

It should be based on the results of last year's Under 21 Premier League in which we came 8th :)

i don't understand the double standards fans seem to have;

- youth player wants what he's worth = twat, tosser, fuck off to chelsea

- potential signing wants what he's worth = just fucking pay it levy you cheapskate

for me the two are the same and i don't see any logical reason as to why the two scenarios should provoke polar opposite reactions from the same fans. i think we have to bet on potential and just pay the kid, preventing the nauseating possibility of a genuine spurs academy product leaving the club after 10 years of training to go and become a star for one of our rivals is more than worth what is ultimately loose change to a club of our size. that's one half of the hold up, i imagine the other is seeking assurances that there is a route into the first team for him as long as he continues to knuckle down and develop.
