From Twitter:
Due to the results of the EU referendum, Premier League clubs will not be able to sign U18 players from other European countries.

Let's hope if one good things come from this it is that English clubs or our club start turning to their own academy more often as it becomes harder to sign players from Europe

I don't think it will effect us in that way (unless we were planning to change how we do things), as the players I can think of that this would have effected are Bentaleb, Veljkovic and Azzaoui, who we all considered part of our academy and I don't believe took the places of players that would make an impact anyway.

In one way, it could be a negative, as teams like Man City could be purcahsing top young English talents, with little chance of breaking through to the first team, rather than foreign talents, but I doubt this will have much impact either.

If there is a positive to come from this, it will that the FA will now be able to impose a rule that teams need x amount of English players in the squad rather than "home grown" players, which they haven't been able to do due to EU law.

I meant buying for the first team rather than youth. I imagine first team signings from europe will be more difficult so hopefully we start to see less of clubs filling up squads with average from Ligue 1 etc. and begin to look inward.

I hear one of the 2 main players in next years intented first year intake have signed their scholarship papers, just waiting for confirmation on the other

Sorry, I thought you meant specifically the U18 rule. Hard to know what the changes will bring, it could increase the divide between the rich clubs and those worse off, meaning that quality academy and English senior players are poaced by rich clubs and hoarded.

In order for this to have a positive effect we need the FA to be proactive and put some sensible rules in place.

In my mind what I hope is the rich clubs will be able to get players from Europe and probably still do but less in number and the smaller clubs will struggle. However, as there is still money in the PL TV money etc, the smaller clubs won't have to sell their players much like now, so can hang onto their promising players and play them until they get to the point where they're good enough for a big club to chuck real money at the clubs. Which means the big clubs should use em. As such I hope the big clubs also give theirs more chance. To be honest Chelsea/City or us giving 2 debuts a season not necessarily loads of minutes but just better chance than they get now. Optimistic?...

Great find mate. Will try and watch these when I have time, from the vid and facebook pictures and prev knowledge this is what I think the squad list is, will update when I see more games. Coaches/staff put down what tournaments they want to go to, this was in high demand, and then depending on how many players go, due to H&S dictates how many staff. So we have 4 staff at the moment. Head Coach has gone but not McDermott as if England/Belgium go far in Euros, he is staying behind in case he needs to manage which u21 players go to the first team on preseason and support them.

1 - Josh Oluwayemi
2 - Marcus Muir
3 - Dennis Crkin
4 - Jamie Bowden
5 - Malachi Walcott
6 - Kane Patterson
7 - Noni Madeuke
8 - Rafferty Pedder
9 - D'jean Spencer
10 - Christian Carter
11 - Tarelle Whittaker
12 -
13 -
14 -
15 - Josh Setchell
16 -
17 - Reo Campbell

Noni Madeuke scored a beauty for Spurs Under-14 in a tournament in the Cayman Islands (http://caymanyouthcup.ky/):

Spurs finished as runners up in the tournament. Won first 3 (7-0, 5-0, 3-2), drew 0-0 with Gillingham (won on pens) & lost 2-0 in final.

I would really hope that if we don't retain free movement, the footballing authorities just go down a quota route (if anything at all) rather than expanding the work permit regulations. The Premier League clubs have a lot of expertese at judging talent, a field which is inherently subjective, and they're better placed to deem who is exceptional and who is good enough for their squads than Home Office beaureaucrats ticking off a checklist. Just two examples of players who'd have been denied entry because they would have been been deemed unexceptional: Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo. Losing access to players of that level of talent won't do anything to help English football at all.

Whilst I agree with most of your post I can't agree with the emboldened.
How can it be beneficial to English football if the presence of the likes of Henry and Ronaldo and the ilk prevent English players being selected by their clubs? I'm not saying these foreign players don't enhance our PL but I can only see them helping English football by influencing our own youngsters.

Because it's not as though they'd have been replaced by some young English kid who'd have gone on to be a top international footballer. Clubs already have a massive incentive to identify those players as we have with the likes of Harry Kane. Rather, their spot in the team would've been taken by a weaker player from the squad, someone already playing elsewhere in the league, or simply a foreigner of lesser quality who happens to satisfy the work permit criteria. Having these top individuals instead means that we do better in European competitions, keeping the fourth Champions League spot and giving more English players the chance to play in it, and help to ensure the best English players remain here and hopefully develop more of a team identity rather than move to a better league. The failures of the English national team long predate the influx of foreign talent, and the causes lie elsewhere.

Ye that's the Noni Madeuke (prev be spelling Mandeki) I've been mentioning, who I said is one of the highest rated players in the academy at the moment. With a name like that Nigerian heritage no doubt.

To be honest having watched that group there looks to be a lot of talent in there. Need to watch some more but Whittaker looks good too. Scored an excellent first goal against Sunset FC. Bowden looking very good as well. Cirkin at LB looked tricky and again Pedder and Carter looked very small but very tricky. Could name a lot of exciting player from this age group and the age group above.

Also from this age group Luis Binks (CB) played as his school represented England in the FA International Youth Festival Cup which they won. Reminds me of Toby in the bits I've seen and obviously good with the ball at his feet to be doing well in Futsal

Didn't spot the shortened name of Chukwunonso as Noni !

Think we've been saying it consistently now that across all the Spurs age groups there are some really talented players - although some year groups have more than others (for example in last season's Academy Year 2 after Carter-Vickers, Maghoma and Glover - so just 3 players are very good or outstanding - we had a few that are reasonable if not outstanding plus a few less good players - whereas in the 14 man year group below that, probably 7 or 8 look very good)

IMO things have changed for the better for English youth over the last few years with far better coaching, Spurs being an obvious example, but there are more academies in England improving all the time,

So these days I'd hope that an England u20 (or younger) team would be as talented as any youth team they were competing with from Europe. And the number of talented kids at younger ages is greater than ever - a product of that improving coaching across an ever increasing number of academies.

So in theory, there are enough good young English/Welsh/Scottish /NI or other home grown kids to fill the PL Academies without needing to go abroad. Of course there will be kids abroad who are good, but its going to be fewer and fewer who are markedly better than the top home grown talent - a very different position than say 10 years ago when most English kids coaching resulted in some very poor players (as an example I still shudder at remembering Carlton Palmer playing for England).

So yes there will be a few foreign young talent worth looking at, but it shouldn't be that many (maybe 1 or 2 per year in PL academies) if the scouts and coaches continue to do their jobs looking at home grown talent
