Our Academy players kick-off their 2012-13 NextGen Series campaign at the impressive VW Stadium in Wolfsburg, Germany on Wednesday night.

It's the first match in Group One of the European competition for Under-19s.

The team is in an exciting group this season with Spanish giants Barcelona and Anderlecht of Belgium. The teams play each other home and away with the top two progressing to the knockout stages.

The VW Stadium holds 30,000 fans and as coach Alex Inglethorpe explains, provides a great experience for the squad.

"We're at the main stadium in Wolfsburg and it's a fantastic opportunity for the players," said Alex.
"We know they can play, we know they have ability, but to do it under pressure on a bigger stage is the next challenge for many of them.

"We're looking for the players to transfer what they do on a daily basis in training and Academy matches to these bigger arenas.
"This trip is similar to what the first team would do in the Europa League, so that's a great experience for the lads as well."

There are 24 teams in this season's tournament - Group One kicked-off with a 1-1 draw between Barcelona and Anderlecht.

BTW, the coach is being named as Alex Inglethorpe - not Sherwood. Maybe Tim Sherwood is looking after u 21's and Inglethorpe the u 19 NextGen and under 18's ?

TEAM NEWS: Tottenham Hotspur XI -
Vigouroux,
A McQueen, Ball, Veljkovic, Stewart,
Dombaxe, Gallifuoco,
McEvoy, Bentaleb, Pritchard,
Coulibaly

Think its 4231 as above

Defence could be a little fragile with Dominic Ball (a CM by trade playing as CB) but should be well protected by CM's Dombaxe and Gallifuco and Ball's fellow defenders.

The front 4 should be able to give Wolfsburg something to think about.

Comments on first half :

Half-time. 0-1 It's the Pritchard show. Deft and hungry. Dominating the left and a class above anyone on the pitch. #nextgen@WindyCOYS

@WindyCOYS Coulibaly down in the box. Nasty tackle. No pen. Being treated. #NextGenpic.twitter.com/HM1JPHHp

@WindyCOYS match getting a bit tasty. Nearly some afters between Coulibaly and #6. Now Pritchard gets a yellow for wrestling after whistle.

PoshSpurs@znmex3r
@SpursOfficial your NextGen news item is incorrect. We are playing in the small Vfl-Stadion and not in the VW Arena tonight. I'm a local.

Coulthirst scores! Great play from Tottenham. Dominating midfield and dangerous on the break. Space at the back though. #NextGen

Tottenham looking far the better team since the break. Some great midfield play by @pritch_93. Looking very dangerous.

Kenneth McEvoy took a knock in the box. Now subbed off. Pritchard switching midfield positions like Bale would. Was wide left.

Excellent free-kick from @pritch_93 who scores from all of 20 yards. He's been superb today in the centre of midfield. Tottenham 3-1 up.

Tottenham Hotspur claim a well-earned 3-2 victory here in Germany. They top Group One ahead of FC Barcelona and RSC Anderlecht

Ben McAleer@2theLaneandBack
Sherwood believed to be at the Malaga game tonight. Isco is the man to watch.

Explains change in coach ?

Great away win for Spurs though
