But he should also be strong enough to hold up the ball. It was poor play from him.
He wasn’t trying to hold it up. He was trying to flick it on to a Spurs runner who had charged ahead of the play. It was a reckless but necessary play (given the time and situation) and if it had come off it would have sent us away.

But Sissoko struggles with a simple touch and it was a poor ball into him in the first place. His decision making was correct his skill level unfortunately not up to it. But we know a that and so does he.

I can understand the sentiment of the performance and the players but I don't think the fans of City, Liverpool, Chelsea or United would be applauding a loss in Europe like this. I think it shows how far we are yet to go until we challenge on any front

It felt at the stadium tonight that people turned up to watch Messi and Barcelona than us in all honesty. There was a moment where a few spurs fans applauded Barcelona play - that pissed me the fuck off.

Defeat it always hard to take but what a privilege to watch Messi play against us. The absolute greatest of all time with a brain that cannot be human.

Id take tonight over a thumping of FC carrier bag anyday

Chill out. For some people it was their first taste of Spurs. You never know it could have created more fans for us considering the second half fight back.

I knew it was bad while at game but just saw that first Barca goal, what on earth was Lloris thinking. Utter madness from him, imagine your captain doing something so stupid in the first minute of a huge game.

He’s been a class GK but he’s turned into Barthez recently, if he doesn’t sort his decision making out then I think it’s possible a new GK should be looked at next summer. His idiotic moments that keep occurring in games I’m sure is making our defenders more nervous.

Anyone see the fight between some uni students and fans along Wembley way? It looked like there were a few students chanting anti-Spurs stuff from a balcony, then some fans managed to get in and basically best the shit out of them; then chanting to the crowd. Ugly scenes.

My goodness Messi’s finish for the 3rd goal is so so good. What can you do but applaud the bloke.

We were lucky we weren't hammered tonight. Lucky for us Messi fluffed his 2 chances and we got a goal at the right time.

Still a good showing considering the injuries and the nightmare showing from 4 players.

Alban Lafont (Fiorentina)
For years I’ve been saying he should be our future keeper
TBF this is only his 3rd full year. And although he shows promise he does have his weaknesses. If we are to persist with playing out from the back (which I hope we do but with players capable of doing it) then he would not be an upgrade on Lloris' ballplaying abilities. And Lafont throws in the bizarre WTF moment as well but at least we can attribute that to youth.

Not seen him for Fiorentina this year but did see the vast majority of his Toulouse games.

I'm sure they thought similar the first time, we just don't have as much experience. It may be cool the first go round but after that don't think we'll share the same sentiment. I thought it was a good fight but still ultimately disappointed with the result as a few of the goals were just stupid mistakes.

First of all let me say it was great to be there tonight. Privilege to see Messi in the flesh. What a player.

Another thing. Barcelona players are technically on another level to our players. There was a huge gulf in class.

However, now that is done. What the fuck is going on at Spurs? Barcelona weren't even in form and hardly brought their A game. They were there for the taking against a half decent side with some organisation. Our defence has fallen to pieces this season. We play at such a slow tempo. We are making defensive mistakes all over the place.

Tonight was the same below par performance we have seen all season. The difference tonight was that we played a side who punished our mistakes and general defensive malaise. We were just as crap at the back v Fulham, United, Newcastle, Huddersfield etc

I am 100% of the opinion now that we have peaked and are going backwards. Our performances this season have dropped by miles. A proper team gives Barcelona a game tonight. We didn't. The two goals make a it look more of a contest than it was. It could have been 6 - 1 and it would have been a fair result.

I don't like what I'm seeing from Poch or the players this season and I really don't like what I'm seeing from Levy last summer. We've gone backwards.

You’ll get a load of grief for this but I think you’re right. I don’t think we’ve played particularly well all season. Weird innit?

You realise we had a load of players missing right?

Don't see how you can really analyse that performance with half our team out and make an overall judgement about the club

Lloris is never going to be dropped, be real. Needs to seriously pull his finger out though.

Could not agree more. I would have thought it would have been a great experience for Gaz to play this game, but I can understand Poch thinking it would have been a bit too much of a gamble. One mistake would potentially have crushed him.

But then Hugo comes on and does what he did in the WC Final - that was simply not good enough for a top keeper. It's a punch in the gut in the first two minutes. And I don't care what anyone says but Leo Messi is the best player walking this planet - you don't make mistakes against a team with him in it. What amazing goals all of them - his two, the second goal volley and the first goal from Coutinho. They were simply a class apart.

I'm proud of our boys, we fought well. But this group was always tough. If we get out then great but if we finish third I wouldn't mind a crack at the Europa League (we can actually win that - no chance in hell for the Champions League) and making sure we are top 4 for next season - with a plan to make 3 or 4 top signings. Realistic ambitions for next season.

A top article - a very good assessment.

So anyone think we are already out of the CL? Inters results today and our defeat against us i think killed our chances.

Also seems like the win against us has instigated their fucking winning run arghhhhhhh if in a bad streak call Lossbusters
Think we play psv twice in a row so we could get 6 points. Barca vs inter should both go to Barca so I think it may go down to inter away. ?

Will be rough 15 day stretch as we have 5 games during that period with PSV, ManCity, WestHam (Cup), Wolves and PSV again.

Irritates me when our fans say this, you're either a Spurs fan or not mate.

He may be a Spurs fan, but a self entitled one.

Accepting that the by far better side won can be difficult for some to understand.

Tonight that was an obvious fact.

The key here is to learn from that fact.
