When I say poor, I mean for his standards, when normally the ball's played into him he's already had a look around and plays instinctively...but last night on quite a few occasions he was played the ball when in space, and when he'd normally turn and carry the ball he played the safe option back to a CB more often than not. It'd be fine to criticise WInks if he was actually picking safe options when there actual progressive options ahead of him. However that wasn't the case, the way Brighton set up combined with us playing a 4-3-3 really congested things for us. I was actually impressed at Winks' composure to just keep things ticking over and doing what we needed to keep recycling the ball and keep us going.
It was an uncharacteristic display by him, and as i said, the first time I can remember him actually having what I'd call a poor game.
He's a victim of his own success I think, he's now being judged against his own, very high standards.
