Great performance , pity thousands once again not in their seats to see the Sonny goal. Hardly any Dortmund fans left their section at half time do Germans have stronger bladders ?
Don't know if you've been to Wembley, but the queues for drinks, food and loos are horrendous. 15 minutes is not enough time to get back for the start of the second half.

They have big BMW bladders, we have Fiat Ciconquento bladders.

Have been to every league game and nearly all CL games & Europa at Wembley, only have a coffee ( Costa) before game , do not use Wembleys food or drink and if I do have to use loo leave it until 5 mins before start of 2nd half when there are no queues always back in seat before start not missed a single goal at any match. See what a dedicated all round great supporter I am :)

I don't buy drinks and try to hold off the loo until after the FT whistle. Nothing about being dedicated. Some people want to buy the food/drinks and need the loo. Human necessities. Nobody can help the length of queues and wait times. You either miss end of first half or start of second. I went to club wembley with family vs Wolves, there was no time to drink the drinks we ordered for HT because we wanted to be at our seats for start of second half. Some people want to enjoy the drinks.

I hate this myth that these are bad supporters because they're not in their seats start of second half, you cannot help queuing. You either sacrifice end of one half or start of the other. Nothing can help or change that.

Just seeing the usual Dortmund were below par etc. They were below par, simply because we made them that way in the second half. We stepped it up and forced them back down both flanks.

Got into work, smiling faces on the Spurs fans...

Colleague who's a Chelski supporter is back from leave since last week, walks over to me to request some code changes in our webapp.. my first words:

So, how's about Bournemouth [edit: City, my brain no worky]?

He just looks at me like I'm a complete git. Says nothing.

Today is a good day.

I don't know if I am alone but I am not impressed by the Dortmund fan's noise, most of it is just the drums and it is all very sterile in spite of the volume. The whole point is to get behind your side and lift them but it went bum diddy bum diddy bum bum bum and when they got a corner in the last minute of the first half and nothing changed, any other supporters would have sent up a roar to drive on their team and nerve out the opponents.

It's a bit like with the vuvuzelas when hearing it on TV but when at the game it's an incredible experience - for supporters and players. To be fair they have lots of different chants but they come across merely as just noise and banging on TV. Difference in the culture with these chants and songs often led/initiated by capos as opposed to spur of the moment chanting. Both have positives and negative. I wouldnt knock it till You've stood among it. Definitely not less passionate which is the criticism from some.

Missed the game last night. But now seen it in whole. What an second half performance (something we often have nowdays). That just shows Poch has become a much better match coach. Look at Eriksen coming out to the second half. I think he had about 4 interceptions in the first 5 minutes there and one leasing to the first goal.

One thing I thought about a lot is the bad positioning our wing backs often have. I always thought about it as Trippier and Aurier beeing bad at that. But I guess Poch wants them there because he do not change it. Or is it a case of them being to unintellegent about when to go forward or back home? There is always a sea of space behind them.
It's absolutely intentional, and it's been the case from the first season. In a back four it is the responsibility of the CM and the CBs to cover for the fullbacks when they have moved into transition, not for them to be super human and be in the right position offensively and defensively at all times...

For me that always one of the most annoying things that some fans do. There is always going to be space behind our fullbacks until we change manager!! Poch sees it as a risk worth taking and it's frankly largely worked for us the last however many seasons

.

He is what 18 years old mate
Yep and playing as a winger too, always likely to drift in and out.

All this talk about a switch in tactics at half time is a bit of misdirection I think. The actual difference was that in the first half our attacking players were so static and hardly moved at all. It was so frustrating.

Second half people were making runs and making themselves available and generally moving about so much more.

Whether that was Poch trying to keep it tight first half then unleashing them in the second I don’t know but it was something that was easily identifiable from my seat last night. Not concede a silly goal early and then open them up second half. Perfect game management and we pulled it off to a tee.

The classic “run abaht a bit”.

In the press conference Poch said he showed players videos at half time and tweaked the defensive shape.

I agree that the movement improved a lot, but it's also a natural consequence of Dortmund going down and opening up a little bit.

Nope. its because we started to lose quite a lot of games trying to play 3 at the back. Last season with three at the back our record was
5 wins 2 draws 4 losses
pretty terrible. With four at the back we lost only 3.

It didn't work last season, we looked too flat and struggled to play through midfield. It's been mostly the same in this season. I dreaded it when we started with three today, and in the first half the same pattern as is common emerged, but we tinkered at half time and it worked.

It did work in the past, when we finished second, and opposition teams weren't used to playing against it, but for whatever reason it isn't working for us so well anymore. Nor is it for other clubs, which is why most teams that transitioned to a back three 2 seasons ago have quickly transitioned back out of it.

It can be a decent option but I think with SAKE being such a good front 4 a 4-2-3-1 or variations of it probably work best for us.

that was the season when we had the best two fullbacks in the prem in Walker and Rose. and two of the most athletic.

True, it was also a time where people thought they could press us and box us that way and stop our attacks. Particularly at the time we were very stubborn in how we played, always passing it out of the back, so teams began to learn how to counter us. A back three meant when the opposition team came onto us we had a free man.

Now they sit off us and force our back three into long difficult passes, wouldn't be such a problem if we had Dembele more regularly who can spin and turn out of trouble.

It worked in the past because we had Dembele and Wanyama at their peak playing in midfield, we don't have that same, power/strength and press resistant midfield we once had.
