It's absolutely intentional, and it's been the case from the first season. In a back four it is the responsibility of the CM and the CBs to cover for the fullbacks when they have moved into transition, not for them to be super human and be in the right position offensively and defensively at all times...

For me that always one of the most annoying things that some fans do. There is always going to be space behind our fullbacks until we change manager!! Poch sees it as a risk worth taking and it's frankly largely worked for us the last however many seasons

.

But is it not a case of judgement as well? Both Trippier and Aurier joggs slowly back when a sprint would get them on the defensive side. Look at the chances created by Leicester because Trippier was jogging around high up the pitch.

Nope. its because we started to lose quite a lot of games trying to play 3 at the back. Last season with three at the back our record was
5 wins 2 draws 4 losses
pretty terrible. With four at the back we lost only 3.

It didn't work last season, we looked too flat and struggled to play through midfield. It's been mostly the same in this season. I dreaded it when we started with three today, and in the first half the same pattern as is common emerged, but we tinkered at half time and it worked.

It did work in the past, when we finished second, and opposition teams weren't used to playing against it, but for whatever reason it isn't working for us so well anymore. Nor is it for other clubs, which is why most teams that transitioned to a back three 2 seasons ago have quickly transitioned back out of it.

It can be a decent option but I think with SAKE being such a good front 4 a 4-2-3-1 or variations of it probably work best for us.

Agree - we have rarely looked comfortable playing three at the back. I think at half time Poch told the 'three' to play a bit higher up and closer to the midfield and wing-backs, thus cutting the space for Sancho and co to work in.

Dortmunds biggest mistake was not getting a back up striker to alcacer. Big ask for gotze to do anything against our back 3. They had a couple of moments in the first half but 2nd half we bossed them.

The tie is over, even if they have all their stars back because they won't keep us from scoring an away goal.

I'd never say the tie is over until it is, but if we get an away goal, which we are more than capable of doing then that should hopefully be enough.

I dont want to forget the Europa League game against Inter where we battered them at WHL and could have got 5 or but got a 3 nil win instead. We still went through after extra time in Italy but it turned out it was far from over.

For me, a 3-0 lead with a second leg still to come is still game on... Especially seeing as im nervous when we are 3-0 up in games with 5 minutes left... Honestly i fucking am ever since we lost 4-3 to city and they had 10 men, thats scarred me for life.

Just seeing the usual Dortmund were below par etc. They were below par, simply because we made them that way in the second half. We stepped it up and forced them back down both flanks.
Real Madrid, Manu, Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, Borussia, Liverpool are all clubs we have beaten in recent times and then been told that the reason was that they were below par or having a bad day.

How do they then explain Borussia Dortmund last night where by half time all the media were swooning about their 1st half performance? So they suddenly became below par in the second half?

What the media and others do not want to admit is that we make these teams play the we they do because of our skill, game management and industry. They are just begrudging sore losers to be pitied

I notice that Southgate was in the stands obviously to watch our club whose players make up more than a quarter of his England squad, namely Dele, Dier, Kane, Trippier, Rose, Winks. The thing is only Winks (and Sandro - Borussia) were on duty. At least his observations on both would have been more focused as only the two were on duty

Watch it mate, the yanks on here will attack you for that...he's their messiah.

Yeah, Pulisic showed some flashes of danger, but not much else. Still, he hasn't played much due to injuries and Sando's emergence, and is still quite young, only 20. Plus, I think he is playing out of position as a winger. I'd like to see him play more centrally, which is where he plays for the U.S. team.

By the way, those in the know believe that Josh Sargent is the true messiah. That kid has shown a knack for scoring goals at every level, for club and country, and has excellent hold-up play and passing skills. He will take us to the promised land.
