How many first teamers did we have out?
How many did Watford?
Work it out.

Seriously I really don't understand how people can judge that performance as anything but poor/awful.
I can only think the younger posters get far more excited than old timers like me who expect a little bit more.

You clearly lack a very basic compression of football.

Have you been paying attention in these last few years?, every time we rest players we are always disjointed, happens to every team, so if you're gonna judge and use this performance as some barometer to evaluate our overall performances this season then you're an idiot.

Figures you're an old timer because you don't stop fucking moaning, you're insufferable.

Game of two halves.
Took me the whole of the first half
to get a watchable stream for the second
and we looked quite good.
Son was dangerous
Winks positive
Dele lively
Lamela putting himself about
Assist for Dembele
Suggest we play the second half first in future
judging by the match thread.

I always thought the second team players were the ones who should be constantly putting the clubs stars under pressure to keep their places (n)(n). When selected for matches like this they should rise to the occasion and prove to the manager they have genuine claims for a first team spot. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a football club having an embarassment of riches but when the void between first and second team players widens into a massive chasm then the club has problems.

Games like this should give the manager confidence that if injuries beset some of his top players he has adequate back up in the second team to give a premier league standard of football that will maintain their position as a genuine title contender. Tonights performance, whilst ultimately victorious, showed little to inspire Poch that he has the talent needed waiting backstage.

I'm inclined to agree with this. We were shite - A fortuitous comeback to a large extent. Watford could have been two up easily with no reply. The sending off opened the game up, but we were far from an acceptable performance imo. In fact has there been a game when we have looked good this season (Bar the Man Utd 2nd half)?

Is this the way we play now, always much better in the 2nd half. Seems to happen a lot over recent seasons.

Relieved that we won but can we please have a game where we don't concede in the last couple of minutes or in injury time, that's the 3rd game in a row this has happened.

It depends a little on your view point. The first half was utterly forgettable. But some of that was the way the side was set up. Winks was not central, as far as I could tell and he kept playing a lot of safe passes. In the second half, I'm fairly sure he went more centrally and he started getting the ball forwards, see goal set up by Dembele.

Wanyama, still looks like he's not fully match fit. Or certainly lacks practice.

The only player i really think did himself no favours was Davies. I thought he had a poor game.

I've been hugely critical of Aurier previously but I think he is going to give pochettino a headache on the right with Trippier. He s been very good.

Seriously?! :shifty:

Why wold you judge a performance when we didn't have our first team out ffs.
our first and second team were and should still be not too far apart.
I think we need to cut the boys a bit of slack here. OK, maybe it wasn't a 5* performance, but that was the 6th match in succession in a different stadium - Huddersfield at the weekend will be 7 on the trot. That's barking.

I'm not for a minute excusing what maybe seen as a patchy performance, but the sooner we get moved in and settled into NWHL so much the better.
it was awful (again) tonight but in retrospickle 7 different stadiums in a row may be a bit of an eye-opener. Poch has had a bit to say about getting that new stadium ready by end of the year and it being the most important thing at the moment. i think he said it to push bloody levy to push the fucking builders to get it done quick.

Totally agree about Davies...no longer just poor tonight but a positive liability at times.

Team cohesion always suffers when we take 1 or 2 players out, we look ordinary when Eriksen doesn't play which has been happening for ages so I'm not sure why people expected much different.

They are still trying to get him for January I think
FFS man, ignorance is bliss. I'll guess I just have to hope he 'loses' his legs in the next 3 months. Judging on tonight's performance I will be hoping in vain. Been watching him since his Valencia days and really wanted him at Spurs along with Jordi Alba and a few others. He's just a really good player.

edit: standing ovation for Banega in the 90min at the pizjuan.

Have a read of the post by mrlilywhite. Sums up my view.

I train a young football team who top the league. I know a little and have high expectations of my players.

What you tend to find on here is the younger posters are generally get a tad overexcited. Go back and look at some of the transfer window threads and the ridiculous/embarrassing posts in there hassling the likes of Hercules and getting all excited.

Today I was positive about Winks in the 2nd half.Negative about Dele and Sissoko. Seems a fair assessment to me.
Post match I'd add in Davies who was shocking all game

I thought we actually played pretty well considered we had players playing who were still working themselves back to fitness or were severely lacking minutes this season. We largely controlled the match and only conceded through unfortunate errors. Lamela is clearly ready to step back into the first 11, Son looked lively when he came on and Winks seems to finding some rhythm. All in all a good run out

hmmmmmm
four terrible matches.
i’m not sure exactly why (a number of things, maybe ‘the seventh match in a row in a different stadium’ someone else has pointed out). we are all a little confused how the same team as before has come to this. i hope that, whatever the problems are, they get addressed. and i hope to fuck there is work going on to sign some new life and to replace those who looked good two years ago. sooner rather than later.
kane, erikson, alli, trippier, lloris, lamela, son. plenty of teams will be clamouring.
