What’s the most we’ve had out on loan in a season ? Probably end up with 10-12 this season.

We sent twenty-four players out on loan in 2011/12:

Caulker, Naughton, Byrne, Mason, Obika, Ranieri, Jenas, Archer, Kane, Mason, Parrett, Falque, Carroll, Oyenuga, Smith, Corluka, Bassong, Pienaar, Dawkins, Jansson, Townsend, Button, Bostock.

We sent twenty-two players out on twenty-four loans in 2013/14:

Obika (x2), Coulthirst (x2), Smith, Pritchard, Assou-Ekotto, Khumalo, Ceballos, Hall, Ward, Falque, Livermore, Miles, Dombaxe, Vigouroux, Holtby, McGee, Luongo, Fredericks, Mason, Dawkins, Carroll, Gomelt.

People have a go at chelsea I always felt they just supercharged what we used to do

During those days we had more out on loan than chelsea

Difference is that a few of them players went onto play for our first team. We were trying to develop them. Chelsea (prior to this season) have bought players with the intention of selling them as a means to get around ffp.

I dont disagree but thats chelsea for you, at no point did I say they were bringing through player better than us

Though they clearly are right now, expect them to give chances to a lot of younger players now morris is part of the first team, I watched mount every week last year. Had Onomah had someone who believed in him and willing to play some good passing stuff in the championship, you would have seen him kick on as a player

Whereas we always found a way for him to end with Steve Bruce, who is having a nightmare at the moment

Gary Neville, perfectly highlights what I think on giving youth players a chance in relation to his recent comments with regards to man utd and chelsea

You said that people had a go at chelsea but we did similar. I was just pointing out the reason why people were having a go at them.

There are two reasons that chelsea have changed their approach. That is 1/ roman has lost a bit of interest in them after not getting a visa and 2/ the transfer ban.

Good for english football though with the likes of mount, hudson and abrahams being given a proper chance.

Tbh the large number loan model is a great money spinner I’m actually very surprised Levy didn’t carry on with it.

It may have been but youth players these days are willing to run down their contract and move for free to europe if they don't think they'll break into the first team.

I get you, but a lot of the players loaned were imo loaned for the purpose of making money for us, a lot of those 24 players had no chance of being future first team players but loaning them made them a worthwhile investment

How much did we get for the ones that didn't play for us? Wouldn't have been much at all.

If Marsh gets a solid half a season at Leyton Orient and then earns himself a League 1 or lower Championship loan by January then it won't look like such a bad move after all.
Not sure Marsh is Championship level to be completely honest.

That was one game, and he played for them in the League Cup a few days before. Let’s wait and see before we cry shite loan.
Yeah. I said it in the player thread but the Championship is a long slog of a season and Clarke will likely be getting opportunities at some point. It's just up to him to make the best of those opportunities and unfortunately that cup game wasn't a great showing.

May not been much in terms of the possible making club money but it went a long way cover the academy costs
Button - £500k
Dawkins - £500k
Luongo - £400k
Smith - £250k
Fredericks - £200k
Hall - £100k

For example someone like Dawkins, had no footballer career after he got released from us but sherwood remembered him as a youth player when he was a first team player and invited him to train before getting a contract

There are loads more but these guys didn't have much chance of making the first team but their costs went a long way covering the youth academy

The thing is our stock is now very high in terms of reputation and quality. When you add Pochettino name to likes of Kane and Winks and us now seen as an elite club. I’m sure the market value for our youth players is now much higher than 10 years ago (ignoring obvious market inflation). We are now like Harrods compared to M&S 10 years ago. I’d love to know what we could get for KWP if we sold him right now after 20 appearances.

Agree with you but it's nowhere near the level of what chelsea have been doing.
