So wait, is this official? I thought the change of architects was to do with the fixtures and fittings gubbins? Pretty fucking last minute to throw out all of the approved plans and whatnot isn't it?

There would likely need to be updates to meet new safety and environmental codes anyways, seeing as our old plans are so old (in construction terms, they are very old). It's also pretty common practice to have one firm design the original project, and another to take the project to completion.

Out of interest, how many people are aware that WHL once hosted regular baseball over 100 years ago? I don't know much of the detail but I believe it was a Tottenham Hotspur baseball team, and that they actually won the English baseball championship twice during that time. It was all apparently because one of the directors had spent time ion the States and been involved somehow in baseball over there.

I remember this being in a programme from about 1975 along with a couple of pictures. I think it was a game against Derby County who I assume would have had a team as well.

Derby County's old ground was called the Baseball Ground was it not?

I've just googled it and apparently it was used for baseball initially hence the name. Learn something new and invariably off topic every day.

I actually think that is the case for most sport pitches. Grass is woven with some synthetic material - might not be the case in every stadium but I know its a popular technology.
The technology is fantastic now, Watford went down that route a couple of seasons ago when they were sharing with Sarries and its worked brilliantly.
I'd be more worried about the technical areas!

The ground's name was what I was basing my assumption that they had a team on.

Most top clubs use Desso hybrid pitches (or similar branded technology) these days.

i'm not sure a 71k stadium would do us any good, cause if those that visit the lane now regularly, and a good many on here manage to go more regular, the atmosphere will be worse than the emerites.

Haha. Seriously though, I hope it is 70k+ because it means they would have to lower prices significantly for a lot of seats in order to fill it up and that would give the people who used to come to games, who currently can't afford to but created most of the atmosphere, a chance to come back and watch the games.

Which is why I'd be absolutely astounded if there was anything in this. It would be great if you could stroll along and buy a ticket at the gate like you could 30 years ago, but if people know they can do that they'll stop buying season tickets and start cherrypicking games—and that's the last thing the Dear Leader wants.

Not sure 71k is a good idea. The stadium would have the equvilant atmosphere of the Camp Nou. Full of tourists, or people in a corporate box wearing a suit on a free day out....

It would have been half empty tonight for example

Most NFL teams play on grass. There was a move to artificial surfaces a few years ago but they became unpopular because they contribute to more serious injuries. I think that 8 teams still play on artificial surfaces (Jets, Giants, Cowboys, Dolphins, Saints, Rams and Vikings) whilst 24 play on grass.
Dolphins is real grass.

Jets/Giants
Patriots
Cowboys (partial dome)
Seattle
Saints (dome)
Chiefs
Falcons (dome)
Bengals
Ravens
Bills
Colts (dome)
Lions (dome)
Vikings (dome)
All use Fieldturf...

You could just give away 30,000 tickets to the local schools. Kids from the area with very little, actually being able to see a Spurs game is such a crazy idea that it just might work
