Tries not to be sensationalist.. directly compares him to the best midfielder of the last decade ;)

Ha, fair enough but hey, Modric was around 22 when he joined Spurs from Zagreb and was relatively unknown to our fan base and the wider football fan base in this country at least and look how he turned out. Lobotka is 23.................

Hercules said we'd agreed to sign a midfielder from La Liga a month or so ago, could this have been him when everyone thought it was Gomes?
No time to find the post but he said it was someone already causing conversation among us and there was no Lobotka talk then.

I think Herc made some pretty heavy hints that he was talking about Gomes. Saying that it was pretty obvious who that was.

If it’s both Lobotka and Grealish in, with Dier becoming more of an option to play CB a lot more, I’d be very happy, but also very surprised.

So getting a Dembele replacement means Dier can now play CB? That doesn't make sense.

Getting in another midfielder means that if Dier is needed in CB then he can drop back without leaving the midfield too short as Lobotka can move to DM

Neither of which are a DM. I think its a big mistake to not at least try to bring in another CB.
Lobotka played DM last season. He's not a typical Poch-destroyer but he's more used to a defensive role.

A CM/DM signing would mean we were covered at CB too.
Still feel like we could do with some who is more capable of bringing the ball forward such as Kovacic. From what I know of this guy he seems more like a DM would rotate with Dier/Vic. Could be wrong tho.

Not something I'm thrilled about. I still think we'd be spread too thin at the back.

I think he means we'd consider using Lobotka as a pure DM at a push. Does look to be capable of playing DM or CM.

Not a massive fan of Dier in a CB2 (think he's superb in a 3), but Poch seems to rate him there.

Edit: With Ajax seemingly wanting to hold on to De Ligt for now we can go back for him next summer if we've improved our non-HG situation. Or maybe even January if they drop out of Europe.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

I think we’re as well covered as you can expect to be at the back.

Vertonghen and Sanchez top class starters, Dier experienced at CB as first backup and then Foyth, who you have to assume poch trusts, and CCV who’s had a decent season in the championship and is now an international. Add to that that Davies, Aurier and Wanyama have all played there and can be last resorts.

Any more cover would be a bit ridiculous

Lobotka, Grealish & Martial in and Alderweireld, Janssen & Sissoko out anyone?

I'd certainly take that right now, Lobotka looks like a busy smart quick thinking little midfielder with a bit of bite in him
