Only Mateo Kovacic (93.7%) and Toni Kroos (93.1%) had a better passing accuracy than Stanislav Lobotka (91%) of all midfielders in La Liga last season.

Can you find a comparison on key passes within those players? Passing stats can always be deceiving if they just go side to side and to and from the CB

It's always hard to tell from a youtube video as they are hardly going to include his errors... But he seems to be exactly what we are looking for covers a lot of ground and plays at a good tempo with the ball.... Love Dembele but I feel we could be a better team with someone who releases the ball quicker in that role and this guy could do it.

Lobotka, Grealish & Martial in and Alderweireld, Janssen & Sissoko out anyone?

I'd certainly take that right now, Lobotka looks like a busy smart quick thinking little midfielder with a bit of bite in him

IF that happens suddenly we’re starting to look pretty stacked all round for a number of formations

I’d be very happy with that

I think we’re as well covered as you can expect to be at the back.

Vertonghen and Sanchez top class starters, Dier experienced at CB as first backup and then Foyth, who you have to assume poch trusts, and CCV who’s had a decent season in the championship and is now an international. Add to that that Davies, Aurier and Wanyama have all played there and can be last resorts.

Any more cover would be a bit ridiculous
I don't know why it would be ridiculous. We had better than that last year. Not to mention pretty much all of our direct competition in Chelsea, ManU & City have way more depth than that. I think we need at least 3 CB's we can be confident in, and I'd prefer not to have to pull them out of other positions to cover that. Wanyama is already crocked to start the season, we're a Jan injury away from starting who the hell knows at DM.

A CM/DM signing would mean we were covered at CB too.

I think rebrab is referring to the fact that Lobotka, who can play creator but also defensive midfielder (albeit in a more Carrick style than a Dier style) means that Dier can basically be played where we need him most.

So, for arguments sake we go 433 with the following back 4 and mid 3:

Trippier Sanchez Vertonghen Rose
Dier
Eriksen Lobotka
Sanchez gets injured. Yes, we have both Foyth and CCV to choose from, but say we want experience at the back? The have Wanyama who can come in and swap with Diet obviously, but say he’s injured. We can bring in either Dembele or Winks (or even drop Dele back) and end up with;

Trippier Dier Vertonghen Rose
Lobotka
Eriksen Winks
Pochettino loves versatile players for just this reason. Essentiay, and this could also apply to a two man midfield, Lobotka is able to complement any of Dier, Wanyama, Dembele, Winks etc as a midfield partner so it frees up Dier to go where he’s needed most if other first choices are out.

Think of Modric. He forged successful partnerships with Huddlestone, Parker, Pakacios, Jeans, Kroos, Khedira and Casimeiro because he has the brain and the will to sync in as is most necessary.

Edit: just realised who I was quoting. Best not to bother with this one Rebrab, he’s the sort who’d complain if we signed Messi.

With Dembele leaving, I doubt it is either / or Grealish / Lobotka. We already desperately need a CM even with Dembele staying, if Dembele was to leave, we'd need two in there and seeing as Grealish is more of an 8/10 and Lobotka a 6, I'd be amazed if we weren't looking at bringing in both. This would also negate a little bit the need for a Toby replacement as it would mean Dier isn't our one and only fit DM in the squad and could cover CB when needed.

I won't start watching youtube videos until I know this deal is happening.

Especially if the Villa ITK guy (Grealish thread) is right about the cost for Grealish. I'd think it's both of them incoming, not either or.

Kinda makes me want Kovacic more if I'm honest but hey......Lobotka is a LOT cheaper so you can see why Levy would do it.

He looks a nice player and would definitely be worth having in the squad.

That was my first reaction.....Get Kovacic

Only 8 pages ffs, really need Dtx and Tiger to have some arguments about whether we need him or not or we’ll never reach 100 pages in time

I take it we failed bring in our main targets considering this guy have a release clause we could have activated to give him a proper pre season?

Can’t comment on the rest of his game but definitely the way he can receive the ball with either foot, show close control and have a very tight change of direction is very similar to the way that Modric used to work his way out of tight spots. He has a decent burst of acceleration and seems wiry and tenacious.

I’m very much down with this signing if the price is as reported, clearly he is someone that the scouts have identified and done their homework on

Or maybe trying to negotiate down below his release clause?
