I think they need to start watching the games more closely

Sissoko has improved no doubt
Dele is not playing as well as he might.
But......

Lies, damn lies and statistics come to mind.

Think before writing an article like this again. It would do you, and your site a world of good. This is why stats are fucking worthless.

Morning all

Our latest Team Whispers video series takes a look at the stats behind Spurs' season and we chatted to Tottenham fans outside Wembley. Some interesting stuff in here that I think you'll enjoy.

Sissoko isn't our most creative force in terms of what has actually happened. You've taken one type of metric - XG and XA - without contextualising it (by pointing out that that may or may not include cup games against inferior opposition and if it doesn't then the data for Sissoko is based on just about 4 games - which is about 4/5 games less than everyone else he might be compared to who have played 8 or 9 making his data barely worth anything) or using other actual stats which relate not to an expected outcome but are an actual outcome and extrapolated something you've presented as a truth to fans outside Wembley, which clearly is a long way from the truth.

XG/XA are good metrics for assessing potential quality but you have to qualify it. Sissoko's played about half or 40% what the other players (Alli, Eriksen, Davies used in your comparison).

Here is what has actually happened (as opposed to what is expected to happen) in league games:

So in reality, or actuality, Sissoko is the least creative force of the players you have used, and this despite his control size being about 40% of theirs. He hasn't been involved in games against any top sides in the league for example.

And it isn't just about the creative stats, it's also about what they bring to the team dynamic. You could maybe make a case for comparison between Sissoko and Alli as both see around the same amount of ball in games, both are quite unreliable in possession (both have similar turnover stats) but even there Alli has still actually (not X - expectedly) scored more and assisted more. Eriksen and Davies are far more involved in game play than Sissoko, both seeing shitloads more of the ball and giving it away less.
