I read the Spurs official article. I can see the need for such a role, but isn't this effectively a demotion for Freund?

I'm grateful to the guy for staying loyal to us.

Think it depends what you enjoy. I saw Freund as someone who loved to be with the players during training etc, but maybe he'd like to travel around scouting players. He'll have good connections in Germany so maybe we'll finally tap into that market

Is this instead of or as well as his coaching role? If the latter then it sounds like a demotion, perhaps he and Poch see things differently?

I'm guessing that MoPo doesn't see a role for him with the first team, but this is the club's way of honouring the remainder of his contract.
At the risk of causing offence, my father always warned me to avoid any job that included "coordinator" in the title, because it implies a paper shuffler with no authority.
I'd be really embarrassed to have something as pointless and nebulous as "International Technical Coordinator" on my business card, though I'm guessing SF's salary will help him ease the pain.

Gets to travel the world watching football games and training. Staying in 5* hotels all expenses paid. What's not to like?

Tim had already marginalized Freund and had he, Tim, still been manager then Freund would have been gone by now (according to various ITK, one of them being Jasper).
I personally thought Freund would be more involved with the academy teams, as that was a role he had in Germany (national level) before he joined Spurs and seemingly did a good job as well.
I sincerely hope Spurs keep Freund as this seem like a man who really care passionately about Spurs; and that this is not a job offered him as a "consolation".

You do realise it was AVB that banned Fruend from the bench?

Guess we see things differently, but I see Freund's new job as quite important IMO. I doubt that Freund would accept any job he felt was just to there to be filled without any sense of importance. In any club the size of Spurs, when you write a contract, you designation and job tasks are clearly stipulated (well it was not so clear under the DoF rule of Comolli) and that he did not break the contract if he refused to work under another job description.

Freund will be responsible for the development of the club's players on loan internationally, supporting the club’s overseas football projects, academy partnerships and identifying future talent.

Banned him from the bench, when? As far as I know he was never banned but I did noticed he did not sit as close to Andre as he used (towards the end of Andre's reign).

he did have a big role getting Holtby here so I'd imagine he could be very important to us. I think he has helped Poch's initiation and now that has been done there was no role for him on the coaching side.

Good move. Keeps him involved and grows our international network. If he gets one or two good young players in and he will get more funds and grow the role. It is what he makes of it.

Strikes me as someone who puts his full effort into everything, international development is vital to clubs progress. Glad he got this role and to anybody that thinks scouting is still not vital for any club I strongly suggest you read the book 'the nowhere men'.

I'm afraid this appointment would stagnate his on the field coaching experience and might adversely affect his future as a coach or manager.
