before sven came he was hailed as a great manager, then he turned crap, at man city his worked wonders, then maclaren, always thought he was pretty good at middlesbrough, i mean look at them now. so surely we should see some sort of pattern. the FA needs to take the blame, its their setup plus they've done nothing about the ridiculous wages the players get paid, how do you motivate blokes that have got that much cash, especially when they arent patriotic. some things to try -

players dont get paid per game, just a lump sum if they win a tournament which is then shared out between everyone that played on a percentage basis

managers are only given contracts till they win, or get knocked out the next tournament, then its up to them to renew, but no major compensation payouts

have national try-outs for the england team, cause i've seen more passion in a league 5-a-side game than in the last 5 years of international football

I believe they have been giving their match fees to charity ?

The biggest losers from last night are the breweries and sportswear companies, next summers sales have been wiped
out (apart from Pimms at Wimbledon and Henley)

Martin Jol or Ian Wright....didnt even Mike Bassett get us to the World cup?? seems to me even Dave Bassett would have done a better job then McClaren.

Personally I Would like Wenger, although obviously wont happen. I think Mourinho is the popular bet and surely has the chrisma to handle the press as well as the track record to suggest he could succeed (unlike McClaren who had only won a single league cup during the times the top teams played reserves)

I would be happy with JOse, although I do have a feeling it will be O'Neil

It needs a massive clear out from top to bottom. The FA are mugs and need to take a huge chunk of blame. I've totally fallen out of love with England since the world cup and I blame the lot of them.

If we could get Jose in it would be exactly what's needed, but he needs free reign to restructure the national game, not just a management job!

McLaren's utter tactical naievity has been a joke - what the hell were we trying to do last night?! The national manager has to be a master tactician first and foremost, because he doesn't have the luxury of being able to buy in players. I don't remember the last time we had a manager who could work out a system to suit the game and opposition and then properly implement it. It's not like the England players can't respond to quality tacticians - most of them do it week in week out in the Prem.

Didn't even have the bollocks to resign after his bullshit speech before the game. Even Keegan had the guts to admit his failings.

What a gutless tosser. Hiding under his poncey umbrella. Even Bilic was out there barking instructions getting soaked. Might as well offer him a job.

Nothing will change, they'll employ some crap middle of the road English manager. Fat Sam or Curbs or Pearce. Doesn't really matter who they get. Same shit players. Should promote a load of youngsters from the U21s. Would expect Walcott, Young, et al to be given plenty of experience beofre the World Cup Qs.

Damn that bastard umbrella. And that bastard umbrella song.

I blame arsenal for not having any England players.

Think we could see him in the prem before long - maybe even Wigan could have a pop...

McClaren has pissed me off from the word go with his smug, "no it's not" attitude. There was a quote from him only a few games ago saying all the fans were behind him - fuck off Steve! I hate it when people speak for "the fans" like that, especially when every England fan I know never thought he was anything other than shit. :bang:

I'm just waiting for his statement today saying "No, I haven't been sacked..."

The problem IMO is with Barwick and the board. Football is a grass roots game and we have these public school toffs trying to run the national team. Heads should have rolled for the whole Phil Scolari debacle.

But first things first, can someone tell me what genius gave McLaren a four year contract?

An international manager's contract should be based on the performance in each tournament. When you are one of the highest paid managers in the world, you should not have the safety net of a four year contract.

See the FA are once again forming the 'selection committee' that worked so efficiently and secretly as last time! The circus starts again...

Surely will not be fat Sam. Cannot have a coach who cannot talk to the media due to paranoia. And I think Jose is a pipe dream, he would never work under the current FA setup. One or two italiens have some free time...

Sooo, who's going to put some cash on Curbs getting the bulk of the current FA fossils votes?

Just heard him in his news conference saying "...I'm not going to make excuses, I could make excuses about injuries and bad luck and blah blah, but I won't...."

Well thanks for being the big man and not making excuses Steve, you're definitely a hero of mine! It's good that you have made us aware of the excuses you would have made were you not such a man, that way we know just what a man you are!

I love it. What a true man he is admitting what he wants to blame without actually blaming it on that. If only his football tactics were as good as his interview creativity.

Would rep you but cant, sorry

Yeh , I see everyone having a go at the easy targets . The FAfor instance .

OF COURSE you have all forgotten that the FA chose Scolari for manager ...

..anyone remember why he didn't come ???

Didn't think so .

Scolari didn't come because the english slime press went after his wife . To see them self righteously slagging off an england setup that they are entirely responsible for I find quite sickening .

The reason you may have been derailed from realising the scum press ended Scolari's england canditature is that , when they saw that they were nailed for fucking the england manager's job , they made up a lie to get themselves off...

...They told the world that Scolari didn't come because of 'Death Threats' .... complete rubbish ( but it worked) .

Sometimes you run out of words..

Anyway ,I would advise anyone who finds themselves repeating things they've picked up from the cesspool that is the english media to be careful . .
