How fitting that one of our best players should retire after Exeter City play their last game at Wembley. Maybe he'll be seen at the new stadium next year.
Good luck Stevie, you were one of the best.

Exeter can give Steve Perryman a fitting Wembley send-off

"The League Two play-off final against Coventry City on Monday will be particularly pertinent given it is Perryman’s final match before retiring – after 51 years in the game. "

Didn’t realise he was still playing. No wonder he has the record appearances.

I have to say, that was a really badly written post. I had to go to google to figure out what the hell you were on about.

I went to see him at a legends night a couple of years ago in Northern Ireland, and he said he didn't really go looking for our results anymore. Was a bit disappointing to hear lol

Please, I have more self respect than to link to either of those toilet paper replacements. At least the Guardian doesn't make you pay for a subscription to read it.

And here's a little technical tip for ya. If you hover your mouse pointer over the link, the web address appears in the bottom left of the browser. Just something all those punk-ass millenials know. :sneaky:

Hi Steve was a legend for Spurs and has turned the small fans owned club around in Exeter. His final game as director of football at Exeter is at Wembley on Monday in the league two play off final. We understand tickets can be purchased on the day so if any Spurs fans with nothing to do on Monday that would like join the Exeter fans to cheer them to a win as fitting send off to the great man would be welcome.

Boring fact: My cat was named after him. Not "Steve", but "Perry" in hindsight "steve" the cat would have been cool.

Anyway, no bigger tribute to a man than naming your pets after him. Cats names have been: Marty (Chivers), Ossie, Perry, Tilly (the exception), Gus, Teddy, Ginny and Stefan.

Daughter called Harriet.

I have a Spurs addiction and need help!

I can concur. He used to love going into ‘The corner pin’ with John Lacey. Mere days extreme. When I wasn’t playing, would pop in for a good ole pint. I remember I traveled away to scoucers, when we got hammered upon promotion 7-1. I went down with Keith Robins. Bedlam broke out after the game. When we got back, he popped in for a pint, paying for everyone else’s. And out of his mouth “well lads, who the fck got done?” We said ‘They did’. He said “Well fckng done. At least we won something up there”. We asked about Hoddle, as there were rumours he was wanted by other clubs. His reply “Well he ain’t said nuffin to us, and after that fckn performance, he can fck off now”. True story

All the older members on SC will have very fond memories of Steve Perryman. He was a fantastic servant to the club. If the likes of Adebayor had had Steve's heart, desire and dedication, and no small amount of loyalty, he would have been amongst the very best in the world.
He was a real leader, and being at Wembley in 81 to see him lift the cup is a memory I'll always cherish.

Don't forget bravery. I watched him play when he got kicked in the face and his eye was up like a golf ball. Never backed out of a challenge. My God he must despair at how feeble the modern players are and how they roll about holding their faces at a feather's touch.
