Stoke has really played pretty decently in the last 3-4 matches... I knew it was gonna be tricky, but I am gald we got over the line.

I am glad the fans actually see the effort put into the game by the players. Hopefully they will take some encouragemeant into their next match (which I am sure a few of us will be watching).

Good 3 points for us.

When it went back to 1-1, the old Spurs kicked in again in my head and i thought we'd struggle to get a draw. Then i suddenly realised we are actually a very good resilient team and that we would grind it out as we have done so many times these last few seasons.

My only issue with Hugo is the timing of his errors, that was such an easy clearance today, to kick it either side of the oncoming striker and instead he boots it directly at him, at a time when we are on top and likely to get a second. I rate him but these mistakes at CRUCIAL times could have cost us and they are simple errors. But playing devils advocate Son missed two easy chances and Kane a chance, so they can't be ignored and are just as bad as Hugo's mistake. I always find with Sunny, when he has to actually think about it he usually misses, 9/10 when it's quick and instinct with him, it's a goal!! Hey ho, let's just be happy with the 3 points and this great unbeaten run.

I'd just like an honourable mention for Crouchinho. Getting on now, and at 37 i wonder with Stoke probably going down if thats the last time we'll see him play.

Thought we were poor and didn't deserve the win to be honest...hard to put your finger on precisely what our performance needed. On another day we could have easily lost that game...

just watching the game on SS for the full 90 mins. Great to see Vertonghen put a Stoke player on his backside twice whilst coming out of defence.

Is it a rare occurrence though?
His mistakes are becoming more and more frequent and that is playing in a side that dominates most matches
It's 5 goals from his errors this season. Second worst in the league but far from panic level i think.

Agree that we shouldn't panic but it's worrying. Keepers can go downhill quickly. Hugo's composure and concentration are showing some serious cracks. Still a hell of a shot stopper but reactions are usually the last thing to go.

Was the penalty that wasn't ever shown again? Could have been massive as that could have been 2-0 vs 1-1 obviously we won in the end but would like to have seen it again.

I'm starting to get tired of Lloris. He seems like a nice guy, but he's the most error prone goalkeeper in the league along with Petr Cech. Begovic is close, but after that, no other goalkeeper is even close to do as many errors as Lloris.

Edit: Ye, rate disagree or whatever you want. But the stats are true wheter you like it or not.
Funny thing is, ratings are stats too. Whether you like it or not.

The way Lloris could cut out the mistakes is by taking fewer risks.

Then he'd be a less effective player. I'd rather have him, with his errors and gambles that don't come off, than most "safer" keepers who stay on their line, cover their near post as though their granny's life depends on it, stare whilst stationary at players bearing down on them or whatever, than Hugo who gamble and wins more often than not.

The goals he concedes are mostly the price we pay for his brilliance the rest of the time.

We can't have it all ways.

They will have plenty of recovery time they play Tuesday and for some strange reason ( and this is the only game I’ve seen at this time all season) we are playing them at 7:45 sat night?

We won the fucking game. Lighten the fuck up, everyone!

Sure, we definitely weren't at our best, but does anyone seriously think the team/players/etc won't watch a re-run of it and pick holes in it also??? Jesus. Chill the fuck out.

No way. I work with a Huddersfield Town season ticket holder (£200 to renew, £300 for noobs...quids in if you're a Terrier) and he'll tell you Lossl is horriffic for errors. I mentioned Lloris to him and his take was that his rush-keeper style usually works but the risky nature of it means he misjudges sometimes and it can be costly. Lossl's problem however, was that he's nowhere near as good at the other things a goalkeeper needs to be, that Lloris is really good at.

Watched MOTD... If Hugo doesn't take the chance, wotsisname is through on goal anyway, and likely scores... It was a case of him being brave and committing himself, yet getting unlucky with the clearance and rebound.

Better keepers have made worse mistakes. I still applaud him.

I haven't been impressed with Lloris this season. He's been poor compared to previous seasons and i haven't seen any worldies in a long time, and I've seen too many save-able ones go past him. I think Vorm has looked better when he's played. There, i said it.

But none of that, admittedly, belongs in a match thread after we've won what turned out to be a very tough game. I'm happy as fuck with that. Pity utd won.
