Apologies if guessing is off-limits (I looked for a post from Rob or A&C to that effect and didn't see anything), but "a quality German 22 year old, height 6ft 4, with presence, technique, and quality" sounds like a perfect description of Jonathan Tah, who we've been linked with as an Alderweireld replacement.

Would that change anyone's perspective on selling Toby? Personally I haven't seen enough of Tah to say.

Not seen anything of Tah to suggest he's what we need. Would personally prefer DeLigt from Ajax or De Vrij for that matter.

I think we will lose Toby. Just seems like it’s going to happen, feels very similar to Walker and we all know how that ended. That means we absolutely need a new CB.

You never know what will happen in the transfer market, so if it happens that we sell one of our starters then we obviously have to replace them. Lets assume we keep every starter. Then we will need to buy a CM to take over for Dembele when he needs a rest and compete with him and Winks. Both Dembele and Winks have been out injured this season, so we could use a backup CM.

That of course would mean that we would need to get rid of some players. It always depends on if we even get any offers, but i wouldn’t be against letting the following go:

Llorente
Sissoko
Lamela
Nkoudou
Janssen

Nkoudou and Janssen are probably 100% gone. Sissoko and Llorente doesn’t look good for us and i think we need to sell one AM if we want to bring someone new in. I don’t see us keeping Eriksen, Alli, Son, Lamela and Lucas if we bring another one in. I have said it many times before but there is no way someone like Malcom or Sessegnon joins us unless we sell one. I don’t think we would sell Lucas when we have just bought him and i rather keep Dele, Eriksen and Son. Preferable for us and Lamela if we could sell him back to Italy.

So if we are lucky and can sell those players, then we would need a CB, backup striker and a CM/AM.

But hopefully Toby extends his contract.

Also looking at our starting 11 the only two positions that seems likely we can upgrade is the wingbacks. “Unfortunately” we already have 4 of them. It would be a lot easier to go out and buy quality if we didn’t already have so many of them. They are all good wingbacks, but just not great. They are not Walker/Rose level. Not gonna lie, but the two games against Juventus proved to me that Davies, Trippier and Aurier is our weakest link. I think we go through with Rose and Walker...

Keep

Toby, Rose & Lamela if possible.

Sell

Sissoko, GKN, VJ, Llorente, Vorm (free) & maybe Trippier (promote KWP) if we need to cover player acquisitions.

Acquisitions

- Any one of Sess/Malcom/Bailey/Kluivert/Neres/Pulisic/Isco/Guedes/Martial/Martins/Brandt/Lemar etc.
- A dembele understudy; Ndombele, Diawara, De Jong, Zielinski, Savic, Lemina, Ceballos
- A return for Pau Lopez? Or a young english keeper so as to not fill the non-homegrown quota.
- Hopefully Rose stays if not I'd sign Sess to play there initially and in addition sign someone else from the above list.

Obviously some of these are unrealistic but it shows there are some great options with different profiles in the positions we need most.

The World Cup also complicates this transfer window so I'm sure that will also influence who our primary targets are. I.e. will teams be willing to sell players that are featuring in the WC before it starts, unlikely. Do we sign a player who isn't at the WC to get them in early at the cost of foregoing the chance to sign a higher profile player after the WC?

Then there's the extra pressure on Mr.Levy of the window shutting before the season begins!

I'd be very surprised if Rose went. Don't want him to go either. We'd be looking at similar price to Walker and it's only Utd who were ever paying it. Hes barely played, not shown yet he's going to be back at that level, really can't see Utd spending that much on him anymore. Hope not as if we can get back to best he's a great asset.

If we buy Sessegnon I wouldn't bother integrating him as a left back with intention of moving him further forward. If we buy him, look to develop him into Sane straight away.

Hurts but I think Winks will go, hopefully just a PL loan though. We have to buy a top quality CM.

We need to make a decision on Lamela. I love him but his role in the squad is as it stands Eriksen backup. They need to decide whether he is of sufficient quality to play in Eriksens place if injured and there not being much drop off in quality. If he is you don't buy anyone, if he isn't you buy someone like Malcom and sell Lamela.

Back up striker id either promote a youth team player or buy a cheap young prospect, Son is backup striker now we've got Lucas to come in.

Hope not but I think Toby is gone, not sure Foyth is ready so we'll have to buy a CB.

I want KWP as back up RB next season so one of Trippier and Aurier will be sold. I'd give Aurier one more season to show worth and thus sell Trippier.

Out: Trippier, Toby (?), Sissoko, Janssen, GKN, Winks (loan), Llorente, Lamela (?)

In: Sessegnon, Tah (?), Malcom (?), Modric ;-) (esque), Young ST

If we did all that then squad is balanced and pretty perfect going into new stadium.

Lloris Vorm
Aurier KWP
Vertonghen Foyth
Sanchez Tah
Davies Rose
Wanyama Dier
Dembele Modric (esque)
Son Sessegnon
Eriksen Malcom
Dele Lucas
Kane Young striker

Two for every position, competition, no dead wood.

No. He's exactly the same kind of player, just left footed
Sorry but that's not true. Followed the kid since he broke through at Corinthians and he isn't that player at all. Yes he's very good at dribbling but his ability to pick a pass is very underrated, he's always looking for the dink over the defence and he operates much deeper than Lucas. He's a player who will come deep for the ball and look for an attacking outlet rather than a dribble.

I was more looking at it from the perspective of what he brings to the team. Eriksen and Son are indispensable. Yeah you can rotate but they are guaranteed starters in our strongest team. With Lamela back and being Poch's favourite and us signing Moura that leaves a lot of people that need to be happy with being rotated. Dele is the one that'll kick up a fuss and want to leave...

Of those players I would want Alli to be sold. In all honesty I'm not sure what Alli brings over those players and I would quite like to see Moura in for Alli and see how the dynamics of the team change. Or move Alli back to centre mid and let him get more involved in the game

His place is the most vulnerable currently compared to Eriksen and Son, but have you forgotten the last two seasons? If he'd only done it in his first season you could maybe argue it's a one off, but the fact he was even more productive in his follow up season shows it's no fluke.

I admit this season is strange as he looks so poor in front of goal, but it can only be confidence and that is a funny thing in sport. He is young and these things can happen to young players. Plus he's suffered like most English players in being totally overhyped.

Sorry, but that's just your opinion. The "truth" here is subjective. Maybe you know Malcom but you don't know Lucas that much.
I completely disagree he looks for a pass rather than a dribble.

I feel like this thread has kinda summed up the lack of ruthlessness in terms of letting players go, I think the teams that have won trophies are willing to show that kind of ruthlessness where if there's an opportunity to improve the team they'll move a player on even if he's loved at the club.

Sell: Llorente, N'Koudou, Janssen, Sissoko, Trippier

Try and keep but if we can't need replacing:
Alderweild, Rose, Lamela

Buy: Frenkie de Jong, Jann-Fiete Arp

I think Sessegnon is fantastic young prospect but what would his role be for us? He's not a wingback. He's a wing. 12 of his 14 goals have come from playing on the wing. Is spending £40M plus on a player that would have a massive problem getting in our starting 11 over our attacking midfielders be the best way to spend with our limited budget? I think not. I'd only be in favor of buying him if a disaster happened and we were forced to sell Alli.

If we lose Toby I'm not in favor of buying another CB to replace. Drop Dier back to his natural position at CB and have him compete for the role with Sanchez. Buy another DM. Diawara at Napoli or Zakaria at BMG would be players to look at to buy in that situation.

not being funny, but after watching Franck Kessié and Suso playing against Arsenal, not sure I trust our scouts, let alone the SC ones.

I'm sure over the last couple of windows, these players have been banded about, and god did we swerve wasting more money, they even make Sissoko look good:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
So you have never seen Dele or Eriksen have a bad game..Anyone that has seen a lot of Suso would know he is a fine player..you don't get called up to Spain squad by being useless, you can't judge a player on one game..that's a ridiculous thing to do

If Barca offered 100m+ for Alli?

Malcolm and Sess in, Alli out for a net profit?
I would take this in a heart beat. Love him for Spurs as I do most of our players, but unlike most of you I am not one of his biggest admirers. Its just the truth

We should try and get Isco, not Malcom. We already have someone like Malcom in Lucas

Isco hasn't started a game in 2018 so far. He allegedly had a discussion/argument with Zidane. So he's attainable imo.

That's a serious game changer for our starting lineup. I like Malcom a lot, but he won't bring anything we don't already have.
Would love him but do you think Manu, Chelsea, Man City or even Liverpool would sit idly by and not Gazump us?

I wouldn't change much and we have to assess where we are most in need of improvement.

Sissoko and Janssen can go. And maybe we can do better than Lamela too. The bench still needs a little work.

I'm pretty satisfied with our entire back line, sub keepers and sub-full-backs included. We've been weaker without Kyle Walker, but we had to live with that. So if we could keep Rose and Alderweireld, we should. If they go, it'll likely be a weakening proposition for us, ala Walker's departure. A fit and firing Rose would still be our first choice left-back in my opinion.

There's an argument that the role Dier plays needs someone with more guile and subtlety in possession. If we were to splash any big money, I'd look there. But Dembele, Dier, Wanyama & Winks isn't too shoddy.

The forward options are all good/great. Adding Sessegnon would be smashing. Alli has been found out a bit this season, but it would be extreme pessimism to think he can't get back to a better rate of goals and assists. Son is still hopelessly under-rated I think and Moura looks like the real deal, so there's a range of good options to play behind Kane.

So, sell Sissoko & Janssen, retain Toby & Rose if we can, and add Sessegnon. And make a splash for a central midfield ball player???
