Yeah, Foyth has more ability their then Dier IMO. I also agree that Eriksen needs to be playing from deeper as he has been over the past two months or so. His vision and metronome like impact is greater from a deeper position. May mean moving to a 433 of sorts.

As for this Italian Cristante...I don't see much in him, but what do I know. To me he looks like a poor mans Dembele mixed with Sissoko. He uses his body very well to protect the ball but then calls on a ricochet technique to get out of tight spaces.

I would much rather spend our money on Diawara and have a center three of:

Dembele - Diawara - Eriksen

This.... Once again

"At this moment, I am very happy at Tottenham," Dembele said. "I do not lie when I say that I do not think about a big transfer. I want to play a World Cup and afterwards we will see.

"Really, I'm not aware of the interest of other clubs. And, besides, I told my agent to wait for the summer to tell me about any offers. For now, I'm only focussing on Tottenham. Maybe this is my last season or maybe I'll sign a new deal. We'll see."

What do you make of these quotes from Dembele?

Be amazed if any clubs bigger than us would be interested in a player his age, with his injury/fitness record, who's missed so much football over the last couple of seasons and isn't getting any younger or less prone to poor fitness.

If there was one willing to give us massive money, it would almost be daft not to take it. Use that money towards getting a couple of quality CM's.

disagree.
keep him for the next few years....very important to the way we play.
also like his approach to discussions --- mature, unlike many (doesn't cast doubt but shows why waiting until the summer is smart):

Well there were rumours that his performance against Juve has piqued their interest in him, and we know they like to pick up older players with contracts running down, and use their fitness expertise to extend their careers.

Dier and Wanyama aren’t really competition for Dembele as they play a different role in team and playing them together can be a bit negative.

Onomah whilst ideally would be the best to take over the spot is still a bit of a risk for a team aspiring to actually win the league nowadays and he hasn’t proven himself deeper at first team level (given he’s not been allowed chances there but there may be a reason for this...).

Dele often plays further up although is a good option.

Winks I like very much but we can’t thrash him at this stage in his career and needs to be managed carefully.

Foyth is unproven in the league in midfield and again you could have same problem it’s too much of a negative pairing with Dier or Wanyama.

For a team aspiring to be the very best we can’t afford to take risks in this department.

I can understand why we are looking at Cristante, his stats are very good for the season, 11 goals in 37 games total and Atalanta play very entertaining football. But for me I really wouldn't go for him, I don't think he would do well in PL, he certainly wouldn't be my choice for a Dembele back up. I don't think he is good enough on the ball and I don't think he would be able to do the role we would need him to.

I'm happy to upgrade players just saying we're not light in midfield.

Hmmm im no body language expert but to me it seems like hes focusing on tottenham until the end of the season. Might be his last season or he might sign a new deal. Im not 100% sure

Very inter observations, and one that I share.

For me he is far too slow on the ball and reckless with the ball at his feet. I would honestly rather give Josh a chance over this guy.

Dier and Wanyama represent the defensive midfield position in that group. Both are quality starters.

Dembele, while being more aggressive in that role recently, is the more creative player of those mentioned in your post. Alli's best position is further forward so I wouldn't include him as a realistic alternative to Dembele. Although Alli could play the centre midfield role he hasn't done so for quite a while.

Onomah and Winks are just not ready. Onomah hasn't been lighting up the Championship - and as Tottenham Hotspur is challenging for the highest honours why would we want to have him as a back-up to Dembele? Winks just hasn't progressed since his injury. Maybe these things take time - but we need a quality alternative to Dembele. Onomah and Winks just don't fit that scenario in my opinion.

Dembele is perhaps the best player in the Premier League at protecting the ball. He's rightly called a "beast". But he's unreliable. His injury record is not good.

The most important need for this club now is an alternative to Dembele. And by that I mean a player that could start regularly in his place. A quality starter. A couple of players come to mind: Seri (Nice) and Kovacic (Real Madrid).

We might have a good few players that can play the centre midfield position - we just don't have enough reliable, quality players there.

Winks was bossing it against Real Madrid earlier in the season but now he's 'not ready' because of a few injury-related poor performances. Smh.

Just heard we've sold GKN for £8.1bn?! Bale shouldn't be a problem now...

In serious news, my colleague who is Ben Mee's cousin is adamant that he won't leave the north-west and certainly not to move to London.

Maybe. But I wouldn't want to gamble on Winks being our main starter next season with one of Dier and Wanyama. Would you?

Next season is an important one in our new stadium. We need a viable alternative to Dembele. Winks is not that player in my opinion. At least not to risk it until we know for sure he can handle the job. Winks can stay and progress (or not) as a member of the first team squad or go out on loan for regular playing time elsewhere. If he does well then he can replace Dembele when his time is up.

But not bringing in a quality centre midfielder (as an alternative to Dembele) next season would be an irresponsible decision by management.

Hmmm...interesting, yeah I could see that...I think Italy/Juve might actually suit him for a year or two.

I have no problem with anything he said there at all, I think it made sense. But there's no point keeping a player round who's only going to play 50-60% of a season, and only about 10% of that is at full chat.

He can be a real trooper on his very good days, but they are not a constant, and I think the myth that he's vital to us playing well has been well and truly scotched.

I have seen bits and bobs of Atlanta this season, and whilst they have impressed me as a team, I have to say he's never really grabbed me either.

...which makes him a likely spurs signing... we are so hit and miss in our transfer business of late and one or two fall into this category of not being good enough on the ball...

Fuck Wilshire.

I would be quite amused if we signed Calum Chambers though.

I'm coming round to the idea of Luke Shaw as back up to Ben and KWP. If the Barcelona rumours are true then obviously he'll go there. But if not, I'm sure we could get him for the sweet fuck all, and who knows what Poch might make of him?
