Well I would love Bale back...but with so much negativity on here about him, I think the only way he's going to get near the Spurs line up is if he shells out 19k for a tunnel club ticket...:(

oh sorry, 38k as he can only buy them in pairs...

and another 30k for his membership fee.

You can't always be incisive from those deep central areas. Dembele was against Stoke, setting Dele free, because the space was there to play into....thats not always the case of course.

Dier moves the ball forward effectively, just like he did to Eriksen for our second goal, to the players who will offer the incision a bit higher up the pitch.

Thats progressive.

Deep areas ? We are a team that spends most of the time pushed up against our opponents third, or CM's are rarely ever "deep".

Deeper than the attacking four in front of them, the majority of the time, is what I meant.

Anyway we're not going to agree. You've never advocated playing him in CM, yet we seem to get away with it nearly every week.

It’s not what Dier does with the ball that makes him such a vital player for us, it’s what he does without it.

I’d say there’s even less chance of us signing Martial than Bale. Until he’s actually out of contract Utd hold all the cards (unlike us with Toby, they don’t need the money). If he continues to refuse to renew I imagine he’ll end up at one of PSG, Bayern or Juve.

I have been firmly in the "Dier is not a CM" camp for awhile now and if it weren't for Wanyama's long layoff, I really think he would be a disgruntled player as he would not be getting as much run in the side.

That being said, yes we have been able to get away with it because we are a top team and the 11 out there out plays the opposing 11 most of the time. But that does not mean he has glaring deficiencies as a CM.

- Can he effectively handle the press? No
- Can he play one touch football with precision? No
- Is he prone to passing before he looks? Yes
- Does he shield well? Yes
- Does he pursue well? Somewhat. He does a great job of forcing the carrying player away from dangerous areas, but he doesn't win a great deal while on the run.
- Does he have the agility and footwork to wiggle out of space? No
- Can he progressively pass? Yes, but rather inaccurate when the ball is off the floor.

For me we haven't had much competition due to injuries and player acquisition and that is why Dier is playing in the position he thinks he is best at. Is that the best for the team though? In the long run, I don't think so. He leaves much to be desired and if we got:

- Diawara
- Aranguiz

or other strong, defensive minded CM's that can also play progressive football, I don't think we would see much of Dier in the CM position.

IMO a back three of Sanchez, Dier, Juan is the future for our team especially if we get the likes of KWP in one WB position and RS in the other.

Dier is a good player but he’s not an elite player. He isn’t a player the elite European clubs would be looking at imo. And that has to be the marker imo if we want to improve. I would say our 1st xi has 8 that you wouldn’t be surprised if Madrid or Barca came for( I’ve included Dembele as if he was bit younger they would on current form). Yes I’m being fussy but if want to improve Dier is a player that could be upgraded. I just think he is one dimensional in midfield. Although I do think he could become a top draw CB. I’d actually make him officialy a CB if Toby leaves and buy a more all round DM like de Jong who is much more of a footballer than Dier. That’s a bit of me that weirdly thinks foyth could be our de Jong and we don’t even realise it yet.

If we do not push on, this team could very well be known as one of the finest teams not to win anything of note. A player of Bales caliber could make the difference. Not in five years time, not in three years time, but next season. He is exactly the type of player that wins you the big trophies.

If he gets on the pitch. What's the point of spunking 70m on a player who isn't guaranteed to be fit for even half of the season? At his best then you're right, but you have to consider him being out of form and or injured which has been increasingly prevalent over the past few years.

Diawara, Martial, De Jong,

If possible Pulisic

Nothing else needed. That would be a phenomenal TW

Anyone here watched Masuaku closely? From what I've seen of him he'd be an upgrade on Rose.

Would Brady sell to us?

I think we can do better than this if rose goes then I trust the club to already have a replacement lined up.

My questions was really more of this can we really turn down Bale for 40m if we can agree on wages, if the other option is Chelsea or ManU? We know we can afford players at that number now.

We are not Chelsea............. WE DO NOT BUY PLAYERS JUST SO OTHERS CAN'T.
