Herc:

We have 100% not bid for Malcom, and personally, from the vibes I am hearing, he is not our first choice. Poch has good relationships with peeps of Mahrez, and they have been pushing him in our direction. Doubt we will deal at fees it is believed Leicester would want.

We have followed Mahrez for 3 years, and had interest, but the fee is very excessive, so we dropped it. Malcom, we know what happened there.

If it’s true that Dembele has decided to go to China or Italy this summer - then signing a successor is probably single most important bit of recruitment we’re going to have to do for years. We simply must get it right.

Yeah there’s been too many occasions of us being blown out of the water for big signings by richer clubs for the assurances to hold too much weight imo. Even with wages increasing with the new stadium there’s still a few clubs that’ll pay more than we will

Man City anyone?

I don't see where he fits there? Will have umtiti, mina and pique ahead of him at the least and Vermaelen has been good recently for them too. Money and status talk I guess, even more than playing time

Man City anyone?

Tottenham transfer plans in motion with Mauricio Pochettino set to spend £120m

It is understood that Jamaal Lascelles and Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt have particularly impressed the club while Wilfried Zaha, Jonny Evans and Jay Rodriguez are also being considered

Mauricio Pochettino will have a budget of at least £120m to upgrade his Tottenham Hotspur team in the summer, as he primarily seeks players in central defence and attacking positions.

That amount will likely be boosted by the possible sale of Toby Alderweireld, creating that need for another centre-half, but the Argentine’s plans are already set and in motion.

It is understood that Newcastle United’s Jamaal Lascelles and Ajax’s 18-year-old Matthijs de Ligt - a former teammate of Davinson Sanchez - have particularly impressed the club for the defensive positions.

Pochettino also wants to give more unpredictability and depth to his attack, with Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha a long-time target. The relegation of West Brom could also provide opportunities for deals as Jonny Evans is set to leave for a cut-price deal, and Pochettino has previously worked with Jay Rodriguez at Southampton. The latter’s injury record may be an issue, however.

Spurs are meanwhile said to be relaxed about Mousa Dembele’s contract situation and the midfield position, and there remains the possibility that he will extend for another year although China is also an option.

If that figure is even remotely true, I'd hope we would be targeting much better players than Lascelles, Jay Rod, and Evans...

Probably is a true figure with the selling of Toby and maybe others. But definitely not on top of 120m , no chance

I'd be happy with Lascelles, he's an excellent defender, while Jay Rod might make some sense if we'e looking for a homegrown option to take on the Janssen/Llorente role of barely playing. Personally, I have no interest in us signing Evans because of his age and better options being available, or Zaha who's is ok, but won't offer value for his mooted price.

If De Ligt and Sessegnon happen though, and that 120m figure is true, there's most of it gone right there.

£120m could very well be true if it's including raising the salary budget, which is inevitable.

It probably means £70-80m on players and £40-50m on wages.

Any net spend will be payments and add-ons spread over a few windows, as is the norm.

During which time we've several £5-15m assets in KWP, CCV, Onomah etc - who will either become squad players (and a player sold to make room), or be sold.

Probably not helpful it's been leaked though, if true.

The Independent aren't prone to make things up out of thin air, they'll have a source of some kind.

How accurate or plugged in is that source is anyone's guess.

It’s a scatter gun approach, they’ve gone from one of the most highly sought after CB’s in De Ligt to a tried and tested CB in Lascelles to the experienced Evans, given the latter has a tiny reported release clause our reported outlay ranges from £3m to £50m.

Then there’s the expensive and unpredictable Zaha (£40m ish) and Rodriguez cheap as chips mentioned in the same breath.

Given the calibre of players we’ve previously been told we’re interested in, this article comes across as extremely random... and plucked from forums like this.

We sent scouts to the Porto / Benfica game - I sincerely hope we are after him.

If we are I can see Trippier being let go. He seems to have lost the ability to put a killer ball into the box which was the major compensation for other shortcomings.

Don't think we should give up a HG spot for a backup RB (if we're looking for Aurier to start).
