But he’s had a good run of games recently and has played a big part in our unbeaten run ( before city match) would be a strange decision to let him go imo as I believe he has at least another good season in him
He has, but it’s well know that all they can do is manage his hip injury, and it’s not going to get any better. He’s going to find it harder and harder to stay sharp as he gets older. We will have to replace him eventually. It’s all about timing.

I have zero idea of who Poch wants and what our plans are but this is the most defining transfer window we've ever had. Sign a few more squad players and essentially we're saying that where we are now is the extent of our ambition, on the other hand a couple of marquee signings means that Levy really does want to challenge for the title. He's no dope and of course he knows that but I'm fascinated to see our line up early next season.

We don't need depth we need quality, an improvement on what we already have.

I couldnt agree more with this. We need to improve as you can be assured, City, United, Liverpool will improve with massive money signings and Arsenal & Chelsea will have new coaches with big money to back them.. We can pretend all we want but Big Clubs buy big players, pay big wages and win trophies..

Dembele had a very good fortnight in that run of big games around Feb time, since then he has been average, with two or three real stinkers in there also, at best. HIs start to the season wasn't exactly wonderful either.

I can see why the club might be weighing up his future.

Of course it’d be sad to see Dembele go but being pragmatic, he only has 1 or 2 more seasons in him at most, and his fitness/injury concerns mean he can’t play a full season for us now as it is.

If he feels it’s time to step back then fair play to him, he’s been a great servant to the club.

By him sticking around and us not signing a replacement this season, we’re only prolonging the inevitable and increasing the risk of being left short if his game time capabilities reduce further.

Couldn't agree more. I adore Dembele and would hate to see him go but it does feel a little bit like the timing might be right to let him leave.

If I had to think of someone I'd want us to sign to replace him then it would be Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid. He's not quite as good at running with the ball at his feet (who is) but he's still very good. His close control and balance are fantastic. I think he would be closer to what we had in Modric than Dembele and he plays in a way that I think Winks could end up playing like if he can revover and stay fit in future. MK would also be more effective passing forwards IMO. I'd like to think our tempo would improve with a player like him in the team.

Here's a 7 min video and if you don't want to watch whole thing, just watch the first 2 mins of him collecting the ball centrally and skipping away from people and driving through midfield.

Tottenham transfer plans in motion with Mauricio Pochettino set to spend £120m

It is understood that Jamaal Lascelles and Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt have particularly impressed the club while Wilfried Zaha, Jonny Evans and Jay Rodriguez are also being considered

Mauricio Pochettino will have a budget of at least £120m to upgrade his Tottenham Hotspur team in the summer, as he primarily seeks players in central defence and attacking positions.

That amount will likely be boosted by the possible sale of Toby Alderweireld, creating that need for another centre-half, but the Argentine’s plans are already set and in motion.

It is understood that Newcastle United’s Jamaal Lascelles and Ajax’s 18-year-old Matthijs de Ligt - a former teammate of Davinson Sanchez - have particularly impressed the club for the defensive positions.

Pochettino also wants to give more unpredictability and depth to his attack, with Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha a long-time target. The relegation of West Brom could also provide opportunities for deals as Jonny Evans is set to leave for a cut-price deal, and Pochettino has previously worked with Jay Rodriguez at Southampton. The latter’s injury record may be an issue, however.

Spurs are meanwhile said to be relaxed about Mousa Dembele’s contract situation and the midfield position, and there remains the possibility that he will extend for another year although China is also an option.

Fucking hell, what a load of scary bollocks. Apparently we are concentrating on the two areas we need to strengthen least of all. And it gets better, we are going to spend 120m on players no better than we already have doing it.

I would say the last 3 seasons have been the best of his career but I agree with you in general and if we are willing to let him go there must be concerns over his longevity because why else would we let him go?

It seems to be more Dembele’s decision tbh.

From what I thought would be a quite summer with only the odd new player seems like it’s going to be a huge summer now.

Must get quality in otherwise we’ll struggle

They have been the best, but all three have seen him miss time with injury as take time to find his fitness, rhythm and form. We only usually see peak Dembele for less than 20 matches a season. If we could find someone of similar quality who could perform for 40+ matches, that could really give us a boost. The season almost collapsed in November because we had such central midfield issues.

Jesus imagine selling Alderweireld AND Dembele in the summer. If we don’t properly replace them there might be some troubled times at FedEx Stadium next season.

Alderweireld and Rose have had such a little influence on the season, we’re already cushioned from feeling their loss. Dembele would be different.

Hmmm this summer’s window is short too isn’t it. I really can’t see us letting all of Rose, Toby and dembele all go and getting high quality people in to replace all three. That would be some big upheaval not seen since the summer we brought Ramos in and before that, Santini.

I just can’t see it. On top of that you’d think we might move on vorm, janssen, llorente, maybe one of the right backs and GNK.

It all just seems too much to do.

I’m pretty sure anything about a RB leaving has come from people wanting it to happen on here rather than there being any truth in it.

Alex Ferguson always said teams have a four year lifespan before they need refreshing. Although losing Toby, Rose and Dembele would be difficult to take, maybe it is the time for a slight refresh of the squad. Toby and Rose aren't 100% on board with the vision of the club, and Dembele (despite having the ability to be our best player) has a body that may not ben able to keep up for too much longer.

He probably does but let's face it he's on borrowed time and only has one more big contract left in him. Will he still have the same options at the end of next season. The odds are against it IMO. I'd he gets a big contract offer you can't blame him for taking it.

With some of the news about current players possibly on the way out, it sounds like for a few, it's been in the offing for a while.

Hopefully the future holds quality replacements.
