This exactly! We keep investing for the future but always hamstrung ourselves when we threaten to win something.

We never had the stadium revenue to compete financially though. We'll still be well short of the financially doped clubs but the playing field will be much more level after a couple of seasons at the new stadium. Those expecting us to compete better than we are at present need to show a bit of patience. We're ahead of the curve that Poch and Levy have planned and have punched well above our weight for a few years now.

The question I have is - Does Zaha offer something/anything different to what we already possess on the team?

Is Matt Law that well connected in regard to Spurs or is this another player link from the past being attached to the result etc at the weekend?

He's been very good in the last few months.

I don’t want a deep lying playmaker, I want more of an 8 type, or at least a 6/8 hybrid, someone who has some diligence and tenacity but also some dynamism - physical and mental - but who plays with some alacrity and tempo, some incision.

Why would Modric want to return to us?

I think this interview in last months 4-4-2 might go some way to answer why he's interested in a return.....

“My one regret is that I didn’t win a trophy with Tottenham, despite us being a strong team who played good, attractive football. I’m sorry for the way I left. I wish we had parted in a nicer way. I hope fans understand that I followed my dreams.

My emotions when I think about the time I spent at Spurs are always really positive. Tottenham is the club that first gave me my opportunity to play in one of the strongest leagues in the world.

I had a fantastic relationship with the people at the club, and also the fans. The whole atmosphere in and around the club at that time was brilliant, and our results were mostly very good. We played in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, against Real Madrid, and in a League Cup final too.

Do I still follow their results? Yes, when I have time,” says the 32-year-old. “I always enjoy watching Tottenham’s games and I really like what the club has become over the last few seasons.

They play the kind of enjoyable and attacking football that I like to see, and I definitely think Spurs could win the Premier League title in the near future – they’ve got excellent players.”

You're right. Palace missed him big time when he was injured.

His fee will likely be close to or exceeding £50m or thereabouts, which suggests perhaps we're starting to move into a higher echelon of transfer targets. Probably means Malcom is off the table, although I suppose one advantage of Zaha is his HG status.

I genuinely believe he should be our top target this summer, however difficult it may be to entice him. Even at 32 he's amongst the best CM's in the world and I reckon he could easily play another 2/3 years at the top level, similar to Pirlo. He's never relied on pace but his footballing brain has always been one step ahead.

We are crying out for a bit of invention and guile in central midfield. Luca would instantly elevate our play to a different level.

I was talking about Matt Law, but OK.

with Fulham looking more and more likely becoming a Premiership team i dont see Sessegnon being sold in a hurry and if he is it will take an offer beyond our reach imo sadly. but if Rose is to leave then Bertrand would be an upgrade on Davies offensively... good pace decent pass and IF Southampton do drop hes definately somebody to think about.

I'm far more interested in adding Zaha now than I was last season. He's been unbelievable for Palace since returning from injury. He was on Goals on Sunday yesterday and didn't rule anything out in terms of him leaving. He said he tries not to think about it so as not to distract himself from what he's doing for Palace. It was a great answer that would both indear him to his own fans - who mostly believe he's off - but also give hope to teams wanting to buy him.

That said I don't really know where he fits and who's going to miss out. Obviously lots of games to go around but I dunno, I don't feel like we need more wing forwards.

For me it's all about Kovacic. I know we've shown interest before so hoping he's gettable. I'd like another creative player to help Eriksen but not sure who that could be. Watched a bit of Malcom last night for Bordeaux and he does look very good. So skilful and quick but actually, not dissimilar to Lucas if I'm honest. I feel like we must have moved on from him when we got Lucas.

Anyone see the tweets from James Maddision from back when he was 16?

Resurfaced on twitter last night. Seems to be a gooner. Described Bale as a monkey and that he hated him.

One very funny comment though, he thought Wilshere was 10x the player Bale was, at the time anyway. HAHA!
