I don't think we'll do much business at all in the summer. This squad has all the quality it needs - it just needs time.

Appointing McDermott as our new DoF says very much that the focus will be on the production line, and not signings for the first team.

Dembele in + Fazio and Yedlin out will be the perfect summer.
We have to get a better striker than Dembele this summer

Just like bringing in an untested 19 year old midfielder from League 1 didn't improve us last summer? Or bringing in a young CB back who'd hardly played in Portugal etc etc.

Our skill is finding value in young talent and moulding it, why would we change that blueprint if it's bringing success?

Dembele is settled in London, speaks the language, we'll have done a lot of research into him off the pitch and how he'd fit in to the squad. There are a lot less variables than bringing in a young striker from abroad.

Look, I'm not against bringing in Dembele. He seems like a decent prospect. What I'm saying is we can't only bring him in. If we're playing in the Champions League then we need more depth than a 19 year old kid.

Dier and Alli were brought in as prospects who exceeded expectations, Dembele could do the same, but it's too much of a risk to only sign him. I know I wouldn't be comfortable playing Chadli/Son up front in the Champions League.

It's going to be difficult. Kane will undoubtedly play all the big matches next season in the PL and CL, if we qualify. So it's a difficult balance finding the right strikers in support. We don't want to bring in someone who is used to, and expects to play every week, and is disrupting squad harmony. But at the same time we'll need some more quality to compete in the CL.

You think bringing in an untested 19 year old striker from the championship would be the perfect summer? I'd expect us to do a lot better than Dembele if we're in the CL next year.

Yep. Just like converting a £4m CB into a CM was a better solution than any of the £15-25m CMs the press were linking us with.

Do we want a player who can come in and challenge Kane for the no1 position or do we want a player who we are happy to develop, I mean I think the question needs to be asked if those players became available then would we turn them down, knowing that we have the money to spend on them?

Also we were after Werner, Berahino and Martial in the summer, do you think these players would have been bought in as bench warmers, I think that shows we are looking for a forward to come in to play more than a bit part role at the club and maybe play alongside Kane on occasions too.

We bought in Son and Njie, instead of Werner, Berahino and Martial

IMO we looked at
- LWF starter - 1st choice - Martial, 2nd choice - Son, 3rd choice - Berahino
- RWF cover - 1st choice - Njie, 2nd choice - Werner

Kane/#9 back-up is a completely different position.

CL isn't much difference to EL in quality these days, until you come up against one of the big 3 (Barca, Real and Bayern).

Our squad + Dembele could take us to the 1/4 or semi-finals (basically until we meet one of the big 3)

Okay but we were looking at Berahino after we bought Son an Njie, we were still pursuing him up until the final day of the transfer window in the summer.

Other strikers - Gabriel Barbosa, Breel Embolo, Domenico Berardi and Adalberto Peñaranda.
Penaranda just completed the Pozzo trifecta transferring to Watford after stints at Udinese and Granada, and apparently he will stay on loan at Granada for the next 18 months, so I think it'll be two-and-a half years before we'll have a chance, since Watford's got to have at least one year with him.

I listed all the AM's we have and we have a full house, maybe even one too many already. So if you want one more AM in, we probably need to lose one or more, who is it that you think isn't worth keeping ?

Would have said Chadli, but he's been coming back into form.

Honestly I don't know who I'd offload but we do definitely need that type of AM. Too many times this season we have needed someone with a quick mind and quick feet to breach these deep defences we have been playing against.

Then despite the fact we could do without the distraction we really need to stay in the EL to boost our seeding.

Completely disagree. Unless we win the league then we're going to be in a group with whoever's won their league, so we could easily draw a Barca/Juve/Bayern.

The group stage of the CL is generally much harder than the the EL. This year was our toughest EL draw and we still only got a Monaco in turmoil and a halfway decent Anderlecht.

It's seriously unrealistic and unfair on Kane to rely on him to play another 55+ game season especially as he'll be going to the Euros this summer so won't have had a proper break for 2 years. We need another striker who's proven he can score goals at a good level.

As far as I understand, for the group stage, teams will be divided in 4 tiers. Each tier will be represented once in each group.
The best tier holds shite good teams. The 2nd tier (most likely us) holds pretty good teams (we'd be avoiding a few renowned clubs by landing in that tier). The 3rd tier is pretty acceptable, could make for some fun games. The fourth tier is forgettable.
At least that's what I thought ...

No longer the case. This year, 1st tier included shite good teams like Einhoven, Zenit, and Benfica.

Looking at club co-efficient we are likely to be 3rd seeds

That would be incorrect. If you have looked into it, as you say, you would know that several clubs ahead of us on the ranking may not make CL or may have to play the qualifier. If we do well in EL this season, we may overtake 1 team on the ranking.
We may very well end up in the 2nd tier.
