Ramos targets Alves and Kanoute
20071028 10:46
Juande Ramos hopes to sign star Sevilla duo Daniel Alves and Fredi Kanoute after being confirmed as the new manager of Tottenham. The 53-year-old Spaniard tendered his resignation with the UEFA Cup holders on Friday, with his first game in charge of Spurs expected to come against Blackpool in the Carling Cup on Wednesday, and has already lined up a double raid on his old club. Brazil international Alves, 24, was wanted by Chelsea in the summer but they refused to meet the £20million asking price. However, Ramos, who has signed a contract until 2011, hopes to lure Alves and former Tottenham striker Kanoute to White Hart Lane as part of his plot to propel the club back up the Premiership table. Ramos said: "I greatly appreciate the opportunity to work as head coach at Tottenham Hotspur, a club with a great tradition and history.

Hasnt taken Clubcall long then

We had first refusal by all accounts

Spurs had first refusal on Man City stars Elano, Petrov

Tottenham rejected the chance of signing Manchester City stars Elano and Martin Petrov in the summer, it has been revealed. The Observer says the board refused to purchase Petrov (Atletico Madrid) and Elano (Shakhtar Donetsk) despite Tottenham being offered first option on the left-winger and Brazil playmaker.
Both went to Manchester City, proving central to the club's fine recent form. Last night, Spurs denied blocking moves for Petrov and Elano.

Oooh, orgasmic if true. But I SERIOUSLY doubt it. What can Ramos do to lure an under-contract player to Spurs? Nothing. If the asking price is 20 mill for Alves, then the asking price is 20 mill. Nothing changes that.

Plus I seriously doubt Alves would want to join Spurs.

I'm not special Juan

I'm more like Rafa than Jose JUANDE RAMOS EXCLUSIVE

Juande Ramos flew into London yesterday to take up the challenge of reviving Tottenham Hotspur.
But the former Sevilla coach immediately insisted: "I am not the saviour of Spurs."
Ramos will be officially unveiled as Tottenham's new boss before today's Premier League clash with Blackburn at White Hart Lane.
And although he will be handed a £40million transfer kitty, he is convinced the current side are more than capable of clawing their way up the table and challenging for a place in Europe.

Ramos said: "Spurs already possess a team capable of facing the biggest challenges in the Premier League.
"I am an ambitious man and my ambitions with Spurs are not just about improving their League position. This team is capable of gaining a UEFA Cup qualifying place and that's our minimum goal for this season."
Asked which Premier League manager he would compare himself to, Ramos said: "I have my own style of work. I'm not like Jose Mourinho. My philosophy is more like Rafa Benitez at Liverpool."
Contrary to claims in Spain, Ramos will not be receiving a guaranteed £6m a year pay deal.
He will be paid a £3.2m salary and sign a four-year deal.
But his bonus potential at Spurs is enormous with a top four finish adding another £1m to his pay packet.
Ramos insisted: "The decision to leave Spain was not easy and the money issue was not the key.
"I have always dreamed of working in England and this is the right moment to make that leap.
"Manchester City wanted me to join them in the summer. At the time that move was impossible. Now Spurs have made their approach and I have accepted it."
Spurs have already told Ramos he will have the £40m transfer fund plus any other funds he raises by selling players.
Ramos said: "We will sit down and discuss reinforcements but the directors have made it clear there will be no problem regarding funding the arrival of the new men."
Daniel Alves, the 24 year-old Sevilla defender Ramos has coached to international stardom, is top of his wanted list.
Chelsea refused to pay the £20m fee Sevilla were demanding for the Brazil ace last summer, but Ramos will fancy his chances of persuading Alves to follow him to White Hart Lane.
The relationship Ramos develops with Tottenham's sporting director Daniel Commoli will also be critical to the club's hopes of success.
Ramos has already walked out on one job - five years ago at Espanyol - because of an argument with the board over a player he wanted to sign.
And there are fears inside White Hart Lane that the Ramos-Comolli partnership is an accident waiting to happen.
One Spurs insider said: "We are not going to get anywhere until we have a strong manager capable of running the football side of the club in the way he wants.
"And we are not going to get that when Damien is gaining influence in his role as sporting director.
"Can you imagine Sir Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger being told who their clubs are buying and selling by someone who is not in the real firing line? And those two have proven long-term track records of success.
"Ramos has built up a great reputation in Spain. He has got to get a grip on life at White Hart Lane and take the club where it wants to go - not be dictated to by others.
"If he senses interference he will be back in Spain quicker than Tottenham said adios to Martin Jol last Thursday."

No chance. Has everyone forgotten the fact that Alves wants to be at Real and will be going there as soon as his contract starts to wind down.
