it's completely reasonable that the media will question whether we're capable of holding onto a player who could potentially be one of the best in the world.
That's the thing though, they're not questioning it, they've decided with finality that it's a matter of when, and not if.
Same thing on talk sport, Matt Scott (gooner) said literally this about 30 mins ago.

What I've noticed is with most other clubs, since the new TV deal, the medias collective line is that English clubs don't need to sell their best players anymore....however that's quickly forgotten when talking about Spurs re: Kane and Alli.

Our best players don't stick out as much now because they are surrounded by quality. Under Poch, the idea you leave Tottenham to better yourself is gone. We really need to add silverware to that to remove the next temptation. We'll never pay the ridiculous wages but we'll pay well and we'll finally challenge too.

Agree, something I've noticed, and I hope our current crop have noticed, is how players that leave after being coached by Poch seem to not look as impressive as they were before.
Examples off the top of my head:
Clyne
Lovren
Shaw

Poch joins us, Rose then usurps Shaw as England's LB...Walker does the same with Clyne, Shaw looks nowhere near the player he was under Poch...Lovren, I don't think that one needs explaining.
In Clynes last season at Southampton he was clearly the best right back in the league that year...now he just looks average to me.
He even made Ricky Lambert look good!

This can't be coincidence.

Other end of the spectrum, Carroll, Fazio, Lallana, Bentaleb also Clyne has been pretty good for Liverpool.

I wouldn't say it's some sort of co-incidence I think it's purely down to the player's mentality and how they adapt to their new environments if anything.

Absolutely, which is why the key man we need to keep above all else is the manager himself.
This can't be coincidence.

Who cares? As long as fucking John Cross isn't in charge of our finances it makes no difference what he thinks.

It's a tabloid-style magazine show covering big, sensational stories. Giving a team credit for a good performance isn't their MO - Goals On Sunday is straight after if you want to see our club getting their collective arses licked - and however much you don't want to acknowledge it, the fact is that Dele Alli might - *might* - be growing into a player we'll struggle to keep hold of. Even if we win the league next season and start cementing ourselves as one of the top teams around, we're still not going to match up to the elite European sides any time soon - it's completely reasonable that the media will question whether we're capable of holding onto a player who could potentially be one of the best in the world.

Or 'Crossy' as they called him constantly. Why is he the only one who gets the nick-name? Is he revered in the journalistic profession? I'd be surprised if he was. Dominic Fifield came across well but Crossy was talking rubbish.

What really got on my tits with him, when questioned about POTY, he said he has to choose a Chelsea player if they win the league.
Why?...how does who wins the league have any bearing on who the best player is?...twat.

The usual lot on there are just so clicky, Ash this, Crossy that...fuck off.
I agree about Dominic Fifield, and last week they had Alison Rudd and Jack Pitt-Brook which made a refreshing change, but I get the impression they only get the call when one of the usual cartel can't make it.

Yeah, that point about the POTY annoyed me too (relatively speaking). He said he really regretted nominating Scott Parker a few years back and would never make the mistake of not giving POTY to a player from the team that wins the league. Seemed very weird and nonsensical.

Sunday supplement is really poor and dated now a days. Been left behind by the various podcasts out there particularly Football weekly & the Ramble.

Switch it off. These shows are just made up of professional trolls these days rather than sensible, informed and passionate football chat. It's all bollocks, haha.

The internet and Modern media have made the Sun and these programmes redundant.

They won't be around (or in a smaller format) in years to come.

These meat head journos are just a few fatties discussing football / they have no connections or influence.

We had almost a decade of a top 4 of Man Utd, arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, and subsequently people lamenting how boring and predictable the top of the Premier league had become.
Then we had the years when man city and to a lesser degree, us, broke that monopoly, and the narrative was how good it was for the league.
The Leicester had their freak season and the journos wanked themselves silly for a few months.
Now we have a potential period where we could be a mainstay of the top 4, and what do the journalists all say? Not that it's refreshing for the league, not how seeing Spurs go on to win the league would be a positive thing, nor how they hope to see this squad and management team stay together and shake up the big boys for the foreseeable.

No. They just cannot wait for half the team to be sold off and see poch off to Barca/Madrid.
