But think on this, how many ex-Southampton Poch players have gone on to improve or maintain their levels elsewhere? Walker might be great at City, he might also be a Lovren or Llalanabanana

And look how long Poch stayed at Southampton after they started selling his players...

I'm a Walker fan but my concern in selling him has nothing to do with his footballing ability. The media will take any opportunity to twist a narrative that puts us in a bad light as we're not one of the glamour big name clubs.

Selling one of our first 11 (who has been in the premier league team of the season 3 years running) will be twisted as is being weak and trying to finance the new stadium.

This will then lead to a whole summer of speculation on who's next out of the door and suddenly we've gone from being one of the most attractive clubs for young talent into a stepping stone for big clubs.

The clubs with the money are circulating us like they were circulating Arsenal in recent years and with some respect to Arsenal they maintained a top 4 position during this time. They lost Clichy, Nasri, Adebayor and Sagna to City and Fabegas to Barcelona.
All the aforementioned with the exception of Fabegas went for the money, so we as a club will not be immune to City and others coming with big money offers for our players. We will need a highly effective contingency plan to cope with the inevitable

Poch wanted to leave Southampton because the DoF who brought him to the club (name escapes me) quit a few months before. He said early on that he would leave them if the DoF was to leave, and the board had to convince him to see out the season after the DoF left. It had nothing to do with selling players, as has been pointed out.

Whilst they did stay in the top 4, I have felt for some time that this was what stopped them truly competing for league titles for all these years.

Call me stupid but I actually have a lot of faith in Daniel Levy right now, yes we've all blamed him in the past but he does want the best for this club, and by luck or design we have finally reached a stage where we have a platform for real success. He has always been a tough negotiator, and he's already shown in recent years with Modric and Bale he'll not strengthen a rival if he doesn't want to. I don't think he's going to do anything he thinks can jeopardise this growth, certainly on the sales front (we will all probably want him to spend more on transfers than he actually does!). Walker is a tricky one, he's been a great player but as has been mentioned he has probably maxed out his potential, and is probably one of the most expendable of the starting XI. If the opportunity arises to sell very high and he is becoming a negative influence then I can see a sale happening.

My only real concern would be it giving the wrong message to the rest of the side. We'd probably need to reinvest the circa £40m almost immediately in an exciting player to balance it out.

Edit: Just to add, Pochettino seems to be a bit of a full back whisperer which also adds weight to the decision.

Which we apparently have in KWP at RB. And I'm sure if any more want to leave we'll do what we did before and lose only 1 key player a season not 5 or 6 as some are hinting at

Starting to feel a bit like we might've called Walkers bluff, I'd only worry about what signal it sends if it is to a rival.

If he's marched in saying double me up or I want to go and we've told him fine if someone pays 50 mill, then on balance I'm ok with this in that I'm sure Poch wouldn't have agreed to it unless he's happy with either Kwp coming through, or another signing more or less agreed in this position. In this sense we warn off the other agents from making stupid demands. But this perhaps overlooks Walkers influence in the dressing room. He's chief prankster I think, always in the thick of goal celebrations, so our leadership team need to be really careful, whether it's Citeh or Real doesn't matter that much. He's no Modric or Bale.

I see you got a "watch it" for your "thick" comment. I can't say I blame you, in the face of the condescending attitude of your protagonist, with his "clutching at straws", "keep telling yourself that", and "spinning" comments, and his sarcastic "funny" marks. As I read them, I did wonder myself, as did you, about his intelligence. I can't say I have a great deal of respect for whoever issued the "watch it".

I don't think it's cool to call people thick, shows a lack of debating skills. Also I'm not sure there's anything to warrant it. Both are sticking to their narrative rather stubbornly. "This is more likely to happen" would wind me up just as much as "clutching at straws", is just as arrogant

And Levy told Modric to suck it up, not Harry. Harry had the car running and was telling Real how great he'd be for them. One of Harry's worst traits was saying our best players deserved a big move, publicly.

I don't see why saying we shouldn't sell him is so controversial even if I don't 100% agree.

So today's newcomers are all in agreement that Kane will join Madrid next summer, Sky have briefed them well.

When Kane does eventually leave, that show will just be four gimps sitting around a table with an awkward silence as they’ll have nothing left to say

Don’t be silly, they can roll out the old debate of ‘is La Liga better than the Premier League?’ as all the biggest names end up there.
