Chaps, a group of us are coming over from Belfast for our away match against Sunderland. This is our first trip there so just wondering if there is gona be anyone from here about and where is a handy, decent pub for away fans to meet up in and drink in before the game?

Not that long ago I'd have said no, as Newcastle is a bit far to do that conveniently. However, they've extended the Metro (Tynesides version of the tube) to Sunderland. You can get the Metro from Newcastle central to Stadium of Light in about 30 mins. So yeah you could do that if you wanted.

In reality I'm just being funny about it... I went to Uni in Newcastle, and I remember going into Sunderland a couple of times. Awful place. Newcastle's night life pisses all over it.

How many of us on here are heading to Sunderland on Saturday?

I've seen a number of people trying to sell tickets on Twitter and it went on General Sale so could be a fair few empty seats in our allocation.

I have to stick up for Sunderland as some of my best mates live there...Cannot tell you what pubs are good and bad but usually a very friendly bunch and as long as you don't have a cockney accent should be fine

Going but looks like we will be driving up Saturday morning from Stevenage and then coming back the same day with little drinking time in between. May make a late decision to stay in Newcastle though... Cant help with pubs before the game, but if you lot are over for the weekend then I would definitely echo @Gassin's finest's post and head to Newcastle for the Saturday night.

Biglad, are you part of a supporters group in Belfast or anything?

Are you heading?

Yep. Heading up from MK and back after the game so won't be hitting the beers but wouldn't mind finding a pub with Spurs fans in before the game. Especially with the Arse playing at lunchtime.

Nah mate. I just organise it all myself. Just seems handier and we can do what we want. You a member of any?

Nah, I have a mate who is in a local one here in Ballymena and can get me a ticket on occasion. Only been over to the Lane once and really need to get more often just an exspensive trip when flying to London and stuff.

From any places I've looked up it doesn't mention any specific away bars. Just friendly home bars that welcome away supporters. A couple I've seen are The Lambton Worm and The Wheatsheaf Inn. Might try them.

Aye, I know it is. I only get once or twice a season. Only advice I can give is book everything in advance. As soon as you know a fixture won't get changed for TV or EL then book flights, train tickets and hotel to get the best rates. Stay in a Holiday Inn in Bishop's Stortford too (one trip it cost us £4 each!). Then you'll be guaranteed your ticket if you're mate is a member.
