Super-agents vie for Dele Alli

Matt Hughes, Deputy Football Correspondent

Dele Alli is being courted by the two most powerful agents in football as he prepares to appoint new advisers to manage the next phase of his career.

The Tottenham Hotspur and England midfielder split with Rob Segal last month, having been with his Impact Sports Management team since he was 15 years old at Milton Keynes Dons, and is the subject of a scramble among the world’s leading sports management companies as they compete for his signature.

Jorge Mendes and Mino Raiola have joined the race for Alli despite having previously shown little interest in recruiting English players. They are understood to have approached the player through his adoptive family.

Harry Hickford, Alli’s house-mate whom he regards as a brother after moving in with his family at the age of 13, will also have a role managing his career and is likely to be taken on by whichever agency wins the contract.

Raiola, whose clients include the Manchester United quartet of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Romelu Lukaku, does not have any English players on his books but Mendes’s Gestifute agency represents Andre Gray, the Watford striker, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and José Mourinho.

Joining up with either of the super agents would increase speculation that Alli’s ultimate goal is a transfer from Tottenham to Real Madrid or Barcelona, where Mendes and Raiola have impeccable connections and are well placed to facilitate a move. The 21-year-old England midfielder has five years left on his contract at Tottenham but is likely to be given an improved one this season.

Daniel Levy, the chairman, will not sell Alli until the club have spent at least one season in their new stadium, which would be the summer of 2019.

The FA responded yesterday to Fifa’s request for observations as part of its disciplinary proceedings against Alli after his middle-finger gesture during England’s 2-1 win over Slovakia last week. The FA requested that the case be dealt with before the World Cup qualifier against Slovenia next month.

The FA has submitted evidence in mitigation including television footage that it claims shows that Alli raised his finger at his team-mate, Kyle Walker, rather than the referee, Clément Turpin, but is pushing for an early hearing to minimise the risk of any suspension causing him to miss matches at next summer’s finals in Russia.

If I'm brutally honest here i don't really see Dele with us for the long term, at the end of the day if he wants to leave at some point then he'll leave, regardless of what agent he's with...the kids got the world at his feet.
Id love him to stay and become a legend for us, but this is football.

My advice to him would be, get your head down, block out the gobshites and don't believe the hype.

I'm honestly not bothered by this or players moving on.

This club has moved on a level.

Unbelievable stadium and training facilities, huge crowds (we was 2nd to only Barca In last years CL), massive sponsorship etc etc.

Anyone who don't want to be here morefool them and there will be ten behind that want to join.

Of course they'll be competing for him. He's a brilliant player and the type of guy that can rake in millions in commercial income.

But with Spurs having a pretty exciting trajectory and the whole "Watch us rise" schtick from Nike, I think he may ride this wave for a season or two more.

Probably right. Whoever wins the contract though must be made to understand that he will not be allowed to go to a direct rival...

Going to be a a brilliant player but he's not vital losing Kane, eriksen or even Toby would be depressing but if he left and we got something like 200mln and when and got a world class mane type player like we saw last night with son using he's pace in behind it could even help us long term on the other hand please stay Ali :)

Grrreat. So last night's win will be relegated to point 3 behind Alli moving once he has a new agent and PNev going on about Kane having to leave to be considered world class. Lovely.

I think he has an awful lot to improve in his overall game before everyone gets over-excited.

Yes, he delivers goals and assists at an impressive rate, but at bigger clubs he'd soon have the crowd on his back for all the 'Bambi on Ice' antics in between.

He's certainly miles behind Eriksen in terms of getting everything right for 90 minutes - I'd be more concerned about losing Christian than Dele.

Not even really sure what the story is here.He didn't leave his last agent to move to a worse one.Hes one of the hottest properties in world football ,of course every agent will want his signature. As said very replaceable imo.Honestly think he'd have a nightmare at Real ,he is no bale .As the song says, getting way to big for his boots.A lot more to prove yet that he deserves to be dinning at the top table.

Yeah this is it for me, we have a few players that for us financially would be irreplaceable, I'm not sure Dele is at that level yet.
He could well go on to be, but not yet.
And could you imagine the sort of fee Levy would demand? I don't think normal numbers go that high, the maths lads would have to create some new ones.

Any one saying he wouldn't be a loss are mistaken. We would miss him but the squad depth wouldn't make it as terminal as it was with Bale. I'd like to think we will keep him for a few more years yet, I'd say players like Hazard, Sanchez and Dybala et al would all be higher on Madrid's list at the moment and Alli isn't a Barca style player.

As someone not from the UK, I've only listened to talksport a couple of times because they had the international commentary and both times were miserable (one time they genuinely spent the entire match calling for Poch to bring on Paulinho to change the game even though we were winning). You guys only mention them when their shittalking Spurs. Are they normally not bad or just always bad but you listen anyways? Genuinely curious. Sorry if off topic.
