Whilst I agree that we should make sure we match opponents in terms of influencing referees I don't like the imaginery card waving and admonish players for doing it.

If it's the opposition doing it I usually shout loud enough from the technical area for the referee to hear "we've already got a ref we don't need you as well".

Why? So when their players fold in the penalty box with no contact aren't they trying to get a player booked/ sent off?

I don't see the difference b/n the 2. And when you have pundits saying, "He should've gone down" but then say, "Waving a card is disgraceful" I see it as hypocrisy
both spring from subtle xenophobia, as both are 'foreign' traits. standard fare from the modern punditry.

Pressuring the ref in its many forms. Spurs just don't do enough of it. Be it yelling, "Send him Off" or waving the invisible card. Oh and note who's doing it here

Good for you, you found lots of pics of Ryan Giggs or Man Utd players in general who we all know were an exception to any rule because of Fergie and that fact that they couldn't ever accept a decision going against them.

This proves nothing.

It proves that winners wave the card because it works... English Premier league multiple winners. Kinda pisses all over your post about it being a foreigners only action

Let's face it, the whole culture is fucked up, world wide. Until that is addressed there's no point having this discussion

It's really not that hard, in fact, you just copy the rugby model. Only Captains should be allowed to address the ref and voice concerns, if anyone else comes up they get a verbal warning and if they persist then you book them and send them off, if needs be. They'll soon learn not to harass the ref.

Love him or hate him, Howard Webb was excellent at communicating with the players. I don't think many refs today command any respect from players these days but then if I was a ref I'd have little or no respect for the way your average player conducts himself on the pitch.

Look at Hart getting up in that refs face in the Manchester derby the other day, the ref shat himself. I have no idea why? Most of these footballers are all mouth.

I don't like the card gesture but it happens, until it's sorted out why shouldn't we do it? Nice boys finish last. In an ideal world FIFA would actually take measures to sort this out but nothing ever gets done, they talk about respect blah blah blah but nothing gets done

Agree absolutely. Its easy to sort the problem and the blame for things getting as they are lay firmly at the feet of referees.
I hate the counter arguement of well you cant go handing out yellows and reds for blah blah blah as we'll end up with 6 players on the pitch.
Well they should stop f in doing it then shouldnt they and they wont get bloody sent off.
Players actions are every buggers fault except theirs it seems.
If the ref association came out publically before the season started and said heres the rules, weve spoken to every club so everyone knows this is whats gonna happen if you surround the ref swear etc then whats the problem?
If you still get sent off, well then frankly your an unprofessional dick and deserve it.
edit- until then though we need to be just as dirty and cynical as every other bugger if we want any success.

I would personally like to see us unilaterally cut out all of the rubbish behaviour that you seen in football today. It wouldn't take long for the word to go out that we are different. Surrounding the referee like that is not being a winner, it is being something else beginning with W.

I realise that this is whistling in the wind, but I would love us to get the reputation of the club that conducts itself in an exemplary fashion on the pitch. Referees will ultimately end up being more favourable to us as well.

Here was me thinking I'd see a whole bunch of posts praising Harry Kane for being a good pro and instead there's some weird debate going on.

For my money, gesturing to the ref with an imaginery card is something they do in Serie A and La Liga, not over here. It needs to be left to ref to decide whether it's a booking or sending off, players opinions of an incident is irrelevant in that moment.

So now the PL is morally superior to La Liga and Serie A? Im sorry, but I've seen Spurs being totally cheated out of winning games by teams like Chelsea and United way too many times to start buying into that sort of crap anytime soon.

It doesn't piss over anything. You're trying to make this claim that waving an imaginery card at the ref is rife in our game when I don't agree that it is. I watch plenty of european football and see it all the time, I also watch plenty of premier league football and rarely see it. Maybe I've missed something, I'm willing to admit that MIGHT be the case but I'm pretty sure that I haven't and as a result I'm basing my opinion on that.

As far as I can tell, all you are doing is saying that it would be a good thing for our players to start doing this, as well as hounding the referee in general to force him into decisions. Again, I simply don't agree and frankly I think it's pretty shocking that any fan would want to see the ref being chased around the pitch by a load of our players.

The pics you've posted above are a perfect example of how players don't respect the referee, whether they are crap or not, if we took our lead from Rugby in that sense then it would only be a good thing. Infact, I'm pretty sure there is talk of FIFA bringing a sin bin in future for things such as dissent so whether you like it or not, it aint gonna start happening.
