There is no evidence that MJ told him to change his game. There is, however, evidence that MJ was exasperated by Defoe's failure to convert his chances, of which he gets rather a lot.

Completely with you on this one. Even in Wednesdays game his deision making was poor. 3 Defenders in front of him and Crouch open to the left...Defoe's choice...take on 3 defenders!
Defoe is a good fast player and has had his chances. When Keane was injured last season Defoe stepped in for him but did he take his chance...no!
Personally, I don't think Defoe has really ever improved whereas Keane has. Maybe Bent was more of a replacement for Defoe rather than the media hyped speculation of Berbatov??

Having now watched Defoe for at least 15 internationals, I can confirm without a shadow of a doubt that he is not international class.

Decent sub to have though. Can't see him getting ahead of Keano or Berbs anytime soon as 1st choice for big games. I've liked what I've seen of Bent since he joined so JDs lucky number must be 4.

I think in terms of goals per minute, Defoe had his best ever season last year. I think people seem to be of the opinion Defoe has had a downfalll, when in reallity, it is more that Keane really started to turn it on over the last couple of seasons. So it's not so much a case of Defoe going backwards, but that he hasn't moved forwards at the same pace as Keane.

Have to agree, in as much as Keane's game has improved so much the last couple of years. He seems to be a regular scorer now, but also brings so much more to the team, works really hard.
