Dragon used to be somewhat reliable. He was one of a few that have faded over the last few years: Phantom of the Lane? Ben... Still posts, but rarely. And wasn't there one called Modric-something or other.

Regardless.... I'm not sure if this chap is an exact like for like with Dembele, but there's no doubt, replacing Mousa is priority number one!

Where as I just called someone a prick.
I accidentally said "knee-jerk" on COYS once, and for my grotesque sins i was summarily banned. If I'd known that's all it would take, i would've gone out with a bang... Perhaps saying something along the lines of how much I'd love to see Prof get exhaustively rogered by a tantric rhino with a monstrously huge dingdong! Now, that's worth getting 86'd for!! :sneaky:

I would’ve thought @Bus-Conductor would’ve been all over this. Really rated him iirc. Is he banned, @Archibald&Crooks ? Free B-C imo. Ban @L-man in his place

If @Bus-Conductor thinks he is the dogs balls then he really must be over hyped. Based on BC’s calls i’d have expected three quarters of our side to be populated by academy boy wonders already like like...fuck I can’t even think of their names lol

I really doubt he’d rate him. Forward passing, taking on players etc. Doesn’t fit the profile. All that stuff can harm your pass completion stats.

He's not, but we don't need one. We need a player to transition play from the back line to our wings/forwards. Mousa does this by dribbling forward then passing sideways. Getting someone who can play a killer pass (like N'Dombele) would be preferable imo.

The idea of "like-for-like" replacements is a funny one if you extrapolate out the implications. Surely, in an alternative reality where this kind of thing would actually be possible, you would only want like-for-likes if:
  • you have the absolute best player at that position in the world
  • after seasons of playing vs your original player, opponents still can't figure him out
  • the team's tactics are so rigid that their success relies on the unique skill set of such a player
  • the manager doesn't want the player to do a single thing differently
Dembele is great, and I will miss his entrancing midfield displays dearly, but there is more than one way to skin a cat in midfield ball progression and I'm excited at the opportunity of something new—so long as their quality is at Dembele's level or better within a reasonable amount of time.

Totally agree, I think a player that can spot a pass and play forwards quickly and decisively will be of more value to us...

Spurs use wyscout..why would they even need to be sent anything..they have the scouting tools for him already..

Pardon my ignorance (and 'off topic'-ness), but is Wyscout something to look at when checking out players we are linked to, or is it too technical? I see they have a 14 day trial.

only if that player also represents a man mountain very few try to trick or dribble defensively as well. Because there's only usually one winner in man to man combat with MD in there...

(@KETTERING SPUR why the 'WTF'? I'm all for disagreements... just tell me, I won't bite... hard!!. ;))

anyways, if the point is more around Dembele/N'Dembele being dissimilar, but needing a closer like-for-like to Mousa, I get what folks are saying that the more important point is having someone that can make our midfield more progressive. On this, I'm totally aligned. On his good days, Mousa is a formidable player, sometimes peerless. But those days aren't always consistent. I just hope that whomever is coming into our midfield will make it better and also more consistent.

This is spot on.

Dembele is fantastic at certain things, but none of them involve any end product, or transitioning into attack quickly to counter, or playing incisive passes. He could probably retain the ball for 45min in the centre circle if he wanted, but we badly need a CM like Modric.

It would change the way we play, but for the better, I think. Imo a big part of us often having full control of a game but looking turgid in attack is down to our CM.

Dembele has played his part for the last few seasons but we need more from that position now.

yet another one dimensional post that is totally disrespectful to MD and ignorant of his huge contribution defensively. There are at least four players in front of him at any given time and as per the manager's game plan it's them, and the wing/full backs who are responsible for kick starting attacks.

Not sure how it's "totally disrespectful" when I literally said that he's fantastic at certain things. I'm obviously talking about offense. He's not a DM, he's a CM, and he slows our play down.

Yes, he's good at defense. I'm arguing that that's not what we need from someone in his position.

well, he has been what "we've needed" in recent years and has been a huge part of our rise to become a consistent CL qualifier. You write as if your opinions are facts, when they're clearly not. And as if you're analysing a basketball player. Agree to differ.

This site wouldn't function if we always needed to put "in my opinion" before what is clearly an opinion.

Yes, agree to differ.
