Madrid have previously used their buyback clauses to resign former players then sold them on in the same window so I guess there’s no rules against it

Would be right up the top of my list of ideal Dembele replacements. Sounds like it might be really difficult to get it done although he could always throw a strop, claim his head isn't right so he won't be able to play blah blah blah. I think that players can only be registered to two different clubs during a season, don't there's that kind of limitation on selling? Isn't this what Real did with Morata? Bought him back from Juve and then sold him for more to Chelsea?

If Lyon activate deal that's probably type of fee it would take as otherwise they may as well wait. High fee though even though he looks perfect for us.
Outside of starting players at big clubs who we couldn't sign there isn't really that many CMs you'd class as £50m+ players. Obvs others but all I can think of who we've even slight chance is Savic, Weigl, Rabiot and Kovacic. I'm sure there's others but it's not that long a list to try and guess the name.

As long as our bid gets accepted, there is no reason why we can't. Would be stupid for selling clubs to limit it to just one club able to bid even if they have been on loan.

Surely that would depend on the language of the loan contract that was agreed between the two clubs. We were able to steal a march on Toby because of a loophole in Southampton's loan deal with Atletico, I believe they wound up sacking their legal team over it.

Yes - Real and Barca do it all the time. Only rule is you can only make appearances for two clubs in one season, unless the ruling has changed very recently.

Not Morata no; he made 43 appearances for Madrid last season.

It doesn't matter how much activating Lyon do, if the player hasn't fully signed a contract with them at this stage then they don't hold any aces ( apart from the price they will pay IF the player does indeed want to sign there over any other club ).

Has the player fully signed with Lyon ? Thats really the important question
