I thought that the two midfielders we are in for are Grealish and also have an agreement in place for a La Liga player (assuming Gomes) so this rules out N'Dombele. Would personally prefer N'Dombele to Gomes based on the youtube clips seen although you certainly get a biased view as it's only the good clips shown. N'Dombeles Clips > Gomes Clips.

Looks to me like Ndombele is the player Poch hoped Sissoko would be.
Breaking out quickly with the ball but with the technical ability to get on the ball as well as distribute it.

Not my kind of player, I prefer a Modric style CM but I can see why Poch would want him. But not at £40 million, more like half that.

What i would like to know is ,why did our scouts not go in for him ,when he was available for 8mil
Seems to have certainly taken another step up this season. Does seem weird we weren't really in the market for CM outside of Barkley last year. Would have been nice to have another guy we could have eased in last season and be ready for a full-time job this year.

The latter was earmarked for Harry Winks this season. Unfortunately he was mainly injured.

Bit hash ?

I base everything I say on whatever facts, even if limited, I have available, but additionally I try to empathise with what our club’s mindset will be with each target. Mainly I just try and provide reason as to why a bunch of grown men (by and large) shouldn’t be wetting the bed, and I endeavour to challenge those who can’t help but lace their posts with an obvious agenda. That I am able to do this is because, even when I don’t agree with the club’s actions, I always understand the method and ethos which causes those actions. I feel that once anybody is able to do this, they will be far less stressed out about the ultimate triviality that it a bunch of millionaires kicking around an inflated piece of leather.

And I killed my twin years ago, guess that makes me the evil one...

Na, I wouldn’t want to deny you all my brilliance ;)

Anyway, this thread isn’t the BBLG thread, it’s the Tanguy Ndombele thread. Unlike Gomes or Grealish, I know the square route of fuck all about thus kid. Where does he fall on the spectrum of Sissoko to Gascoigne?

He is more at the N’jie end of the spectrum but others beg to differ. I’ll leave it to the experts :sneaky:

why do you think this, Flash?

Hi Cliff I think the price is too high for what is unproven talent. Yes he is young, he dribbles etc but I think we need a defensive pivot that is a better passer. His stats on passing are solid but he is very much a short passer and I would like to see someone with a better passing range. Especially if we move to use a single CM pivot.

Look if we are seriously looking at 40-50m quid for a player, you want someone with better proven quality. There are a whole host of CM/CDM players in that 21-23 age range who can be got for a similar price like Tielemens, Kessie, Pellegrino, Ruiz, Cristante, Betancur, Barella for example. Max Meyer was on a free for Chrissakes. Even Lewis Cook and Loftus-Cheek have impressive stats in CM. I would target the latter. Closest thing to Moussa that I have seen. If you are talking about replacing Moussa you really want a CM with good passing range and not a typical short range passing CDM who is primarily a screen for the defence, which is what Ndombele is. Plus I don’t think Ligure 1 is a good test of quality.

Yet JJ’s previously said they would sell to us if we offered the right money but we get creative with deals whereas they’d want straight cash

Unless @tiger666 is Chelsea itk?

cheers- i haven't seen most of your alternatives play except for the more obvious suggestions. NDombele from what I've seen does have a decent passing range, I'm MDs biggest fan but his weakness is his limited range of 30 yards with one foot. (Not his lack of goals and assists, a red herring.) I think we could get him IF Aulas is willing and Fekir doesn't move for £30m plus the usual Levy incentives, which is surely what Cook would cost. I like NDombeles physicality and pace, too- he can get in peoples faces. We'll need that in some games. We don't need another Winks type, or DM pivot, especially at home v the bus parkers.

Anyway, agree to disagree...

Ndombele actually does have a pretty good passing range and knows how to thread balls through the lines.

@HotspurHacker
#thfc have a great chance to sign former Amiens midfielder Tanguy Ndombélé, being 'several steps ahead' of Man Utd and Paris Saint-Germain. [Téléfoot]

Genuinely curious how many of our favorite news aggregators speak French and watch french football programs to gather such info...

Also funny to see ManU fans perking up on him now that Manchester evening news has 'published' a gossip column about him referencing the same sources our news aggregators are referencing for our interest.
