Hopefully Lyon announce Jean Lucas today, then we can start warming up the F5 finger.
Edit: Jean Lucas was seen arriving at the Lyon airport Sunday afternoon.

Everybody saying that if we’d get 5 or 6 players we will be a serious threat next season needs to appreciate how long it takes new players to assimilate into Poch’s style.

Generally, it seems to take 12 months before new signings become really effective for us. That is why not buying anybody last year was good in the short term but bad in the long term. Poch’s style doesn’t fit with a large turnover of players. I’d prefer to add 3 first teamers as a maximum Andy also keep as many of the current first 15 as we’d possibly can to help integration.

I’m all for 1 or 2 young prospects in addition, but really don’t want to go through a year of transition at a time when we have a really good chance of winning something major.

I'm not sure I totally agree with that

If you look back at all of Poch's signings, 95% of them are actually 'squad players' and not first-teamers

The ones that were first-teamers (Toby and Victor) went straight into the team and were actually pretty good from the get-go

Both if which had been playing regularly in the Prem League under Poch? (I think without checking) so needed 0 bedding in or any time to get used to the league.

Toby wasn’t at Southampton under Poch but I get what you’re saying. If a player is good enough then he should be able to crack on. How much is down to the player and how much is down to the manger’s trust is another thing.

I think that is why we need to get players in for most of pre-season to give them the best chance for the season, especially Tanguy. If the names are true, Sessegnon and Lo Celso may take longer due to international commitments during June.

Having a pre season really helps though, as we’ve also seen. Poch needs time to work with them. He needs them in early. The issue is Levy doesnt do early transfers

While i definitely agree that wholesale changes to the starting XI might cause a problem short term, i can't really see why a new signing playing under Poch would struggle more than a new signing under a different coach at a different club. I'm not arguing that some new players haven't taken time to adjust (they have been quoted as saying as much) but if i had to bet on it i'd put it more down to the type of club we were when Poch came in, and the type of player he bought at that time perhaps ? A top class player, coming into what is now not far off a top class team, shouldn't really take 12 months to hit top form. At the very least i'd expect either NDombele or Lo Celso (and probably both) to be high enough caliber that they would have a big impact on the first team in the coming season. Sessengnon and definitely Clarke obviously different although i suspect we'd be pleasantly surprised by Sessengnon. Tbh i always think Poch seems to go over the top in protecting players and only playing them when he feels they are 100% physically and mentally anyway, so i wouldn't expect him to field a team with loads of new signings in the early stages of the season. Will definitely be an interesting season - i can't wait !

Yep, having the key signings in for the start of pre season would be a great thing to see and would hopefully show a bit of trust/adaptation between Levy and Poch away from the 'sign at last minute' style. Likely will take new signings a while to get up to the fitness of Poch's system full time but arriving on day one with everyone else will be key.

The team spirit is massive in our club and growing new players within the hard graft of hard double sessions and pre season friendlies etc will certainly help. Both trust on and off the pitch.

Does anyone know when players are due back?
