There is mixed news from the treatment room as Martin Jol prepares for Wednesday night's Carling Cup semi-final, first leg against Arsenal at the Lane.

Teemu Tainio (ankle) is out after limping off against Fulham on Saturday and Ledley King suffered a slight setback on his recovery from a bruised foot but on the plus side sees Jermaine Jenas (ankle), Mido (groin), Paul Stalteri (hip) and Edgar Davids (illness/groin) all back in training.

Martin reported: "Teemu Tainio had a kick on his ankle in the first five minutes at Fulham and will be out for about 10 days, maybe less.

"The only other one is Ledley King, who felt something in his foot and that was a bit of a setback but I still think he could come back in the match against Southend.

"On the other hand, Jermaine Jenas, Mido, Paul Stalteri are all back in training and Edgar Davids, who was ill all last week and had a groin problem, is also back in training."

Welcome back JJ we have missed you. Teemu really is the new Anderton.

    Carling Cup 1st Leg...

Rocha is gonna get one hell of an intro to English football!

    Good luck to him...

The news that King is out still was to be expected, but it is a concern. Jenas won't be match fit and I don't expect him to start on Wednesday, though me may make the bench.

Tainio's form currently means his absence is not overly worrying. His form though is!

we have the team to beat them now is the time to come into good form and keep a few clean sheets

    Robinson
    Chimbonda Dawson Rocha Ekotto
    Lennon Zokora Huddlestone Malbranque
    Defoe Berbatov

someone was gonna post a team soone or later, i'd lke this, which is what i deem to be the best, tho some people may argue that its too early for Rocha, or even Ghaly ahead of either lennon, zokora, malbranque or huddlestone, or for some reason keane ahead of defoe!

Rocha is not Eligible for the Semi first leg

It'll be Gardner, not Rocha. And it'll be Lee, not Assou-Ekotto. Otherwise your team is right. I don't think there's been a more predictable 11 all season.

I'm i only the only 1 who thinks that Daws is in need of some rest?

He has done a fantastic job, but is still young and has had to carry the defence all season.

At least they did last season when Wigan beat the Arabs.

Read the posts guys - Rocha is not allowed to play.

King worries me. Bruised foot? That is one hell of a bruise.

Losing Tainio is (a) typical and (b) not a huge difference in the side. I like the guy's endeavour and he is a good squad player, but hardly likely to be the difference between the sides. Besides, Zokora looked like he was recapturing some of his form from earlier in the season last Wednesday. Most of his lacklustre performance have been away from home. Hopefully his strength and mobility will trouble the Scum's teen squad.

Think away goals only "count" after extra time. 1-1 and 2-2 gives extra time, still no goals, away goal wins.

I am making an assumption with Rocha being better than Gardner, but for me THAT is the best team available without a shadow of a doubt.

I agree completely. It's funny how these non-favourite players seem to be the hardest-working players as well. Or at least some of them. Perhaps it has to do with Spurs' history. We adore skill. We adore the Hoddles and the Ginolas of this world and the hard-working types who show at least as much determination and willingness to win do not become heroes at Spurs. I mean look at for example Ghaly or Tainio. If you played on despite losing four teeth or threw yourself into every single situation knowing no fear, you'd be a bloody legend in many clubs. Spurs fans do not see that, or perhaps they see it, but they do not remember it. The things we remember are great goals and brilliant passes, not the tackle that gave us the ball in the first place.

Perhaps it's common to a lot of clubs but at least at Spurs it's always the full-backs who get the abuse, especially the left-backs. From Edinburgh to Edman, from Taricco to Thatcher, from Pat van den Hauwe to Young-Pyo Lee. Well, I have to admit that it hasn't always been the position to which the management paid the most attention to, so we've had these players who have perhaps not been quite as skillful as the rest. But it's still funny how some players do not get to be the fans' favourite no matter what they did. You can score the goal of the decade at Anfield from 40 yards, but make a couple of defensive errors in your first season in English football and suddenly you're a useless player.
