Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Hossam Ghaly are back in the frame for Sunday's clash against Newcastle United at the Lane - Ledley King and Jermaine Jenas are also improving.

    Source:Official Site

Both full-back Benoit and midfielder Hossam were back in full training on Friday - Benoit after a groin problem, Hossam after splitting his lip and losing teeth at Portsmouth on New Year's Day.

Martin Jol revealed that skipper Ledley (bruised foot) and midfielder JJ (ankle) could both be back within 10 days but Mido (groin) and Paul Stalteri (hip) remain sidelined.

"JJ is doing very well but needs another 10 days," reported Martin on Friday. "Ledley's bruising is much better, he's not in the protective boot anymore and hopefully he'll be back in a week to 10 days.

"Mido still has a bit of a groin strain, he's almost recovered though and is increasing his fitness.

"Paul Stalteri's injury was fine but he's had a setback after tearing a cartilage in his hip."

Thats not the spirit, think of it as Berbatov and Defoe against taylor and babayaro? Now! Isn't that much better?:hump:

"Hello ridouche it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums? "

The new software is turning into the big brother!!! I have said it before, if there is nada to say stay quiet.

    otherwise I can say:

why is it that Jol is not given a new contract? ALLO, ALLO ALI? this is a taugh one to answer.

now big brother I have fulfiled my duty and until the next several weeks I would say, keep busy and don't crash.:duh:

Perhaps best not to risk him...... for the rest of the season...

To be fair on Taylor, he could - and looks like he will - turn into a very good CB.

But with all the crap he's got round him...no wonder the Barcodes started the season so badly!

But they do look a lot more stable with Given (imo the Leagues consistently best goalie) now back after that stomach injury. Another credit to them is that their youngsters (Huntingdon, Edgar etc.) who have played for them recently, actually look much better than the first choices!

Will still be very disappointed if we don't win this game. Their defence should just not be up to it.

There really should be a good few goals both ways.

I find it hard to see our defence, sans King, coping with Martins and Dyer.

I find it hard to see their defence, sans experience, coping with Berbatov and Defoe/Keane.

I've been saying since last Summer that Newcastle were better than anyone gave them credit for, excepting their defence. Now that they have a fit and eager Dyer back and Martins is adjusting so well to the Premiership style, they're an absolute nightmare to defend against.

You have to give Roeder some credit for ditching his hopelessly underperforming "first choice" defence and persevering with kids. It's a longer-term strategy and I think it should pay off for them. But, in the meantime, they are vulnerable.

I'm looking forward to it (I'll be there) with some trepidation, as I think we'll ship some goals, but it should be a good match.

Yeah ok, but if we lose at home to this lot, I reckon we can kiss our top league finish goodbye!

Losing and drawing all of our away games is one thing, but losing or drawing at home to Newcastle is something much worse! This is exactly the type of game we should be winning.

    COYS!!!

I know its everyones favourite game on a Friday/Saturday but give our injury list how about playing Ekotto on the left of midfield? We were told when he arrived that he could play both at full back and left wing, so why not give it a try. I have to say I'm not yet convinced about the man (attitude ,more than skill) but he does have pace and ability and would be less of a risk defensively if played higher up the pitch. His pace would also be more of a protection for wipey.
I also think that the Hudd should be rested for this one as he has looked a little vulnerable (esp to pace) in his last couple of games. Whilst again I have not been totally convinced about Zokorra (esp the play acting and pointing!) his athleticism in this game could be useful.
    How about;
    Robbo
    Chimbo Daws Davenport Lee
    Lennon Malbranque Zokorra Ekotto
    Berba Defoe

stick ghaly instead of ekkotto, he'l lose the ball but more athletic an will win it back a few times as well. or even robbie on the left! an ekotto insted of lee, really done rate lee
  12. jackhealy
He started at Lens as a winger and was converted into a left back. If he had been a top class winger I think he would have stayed on the wing.By all means give him a try, but don't expect fireworks.

I'm fascinated by what mid MJ will pick tomorrow.

The Toon are very strong in mid, will we try to match them, or win it in different areas, perhaps by sacrifing the mid battle to some extent?
