this is what i like about ramos, nobody has clue what hes going to do next, this guys has balls to do what he likes with the formation

 how strange, that's precisely the same thing that some people hated about Jol.

Anyways, I think this can go in DC's team news thread.

Bent and Berby up front methinks - big powerful targetmen.

Last chance to use Keano for a few games though. If he does only play two up top, I imagine Keano will get the nod ahead of Bent.

This isnt the case at all.. Jol never put his balls on the line by changing things drastically. He would never make substitutions earlier than about 70 minutes or so.. He would hardly ever try and play a different formation during a match or even before... Ramos seems willing to try things out that Jol never would and te decisions seem to be working most of the time... COYS

As much as I hate it he will play this formation:

Robbo
Stalteri dawson chim lee
lennon zokora jenas malbranque
keane berbatov

and we will play rubbish, then he will change it to:

robbo
chim dawson zokora lee
lennon hudd malbranque
Defoe bent keane

Or something like that....

Oh well maybe it's just my memory playing tricks. I remember Jol using Lennon on both wings, in the hole, as second striker. I remember Ghaly coming on as substitute and then being taken off because it wasn't working. I remember both Tainio and Jenas being used as right backs.

As for formations, I remember Lee pushing up so Davids could tuck in from LM to bolster the midfield.

I remember a lot of good things that Martin Jol did, although I accept that the fashion now is to see him as something of a useless blunderer.

As anyone who's met me can confirm, I don't follow fashion .

You ain't foolin' no-one, Juande Ramos.

Justin Edinburgh, quoted in today's Grauniad, reckons the club underestimated how long Ledley would be out, and that we would have gone for a more experienced player if we'd realised it was going to take this long. I reckon he reckons right.

If that's the case then whoever made that decision should be shot (or at least badly wounded!) how on earth could we expect to rely on Ledley King being fit after the injuries he has had prior to the start of the season!?

For the price we paid I think we were expecting a little more even at this early stage.

Another strange thing is that no-one has criticised Juande's decision to have two spare strikers on the bench home and away. When Martin did it, it was very bad indeed, and pandering to the strikers' egos.

and also no one has commented on the fact that ramos is a tactical genius for being able to change a team and formation at half time and get a result, when it was the team and tactics he pciked for the 1st half that got us in the mess.

i still love you martin (although i do have strong feelings for ramos that given time could develop into love)

Also people are so busy praising plan B, they haven't noticed Plan A has been pretty shity a few times so far. It's easy to make your changes look good if you have spent 3 days setting up a side that gets out played by Aalborg.

Edit : Ever stole my thunder:evil:

To be fair Ramos hs been in charge for couple of games so he's yet to decide which of his players can cut it in a competitive game and which ones can't. If he's still chopping and changing in 2 years time then that is a concern.

You didn't know what Jol was going to do?? Ramos has by far gone outside the box and used Zokora as a center back and seen Chimbonda shouldn't be there so he keeps him at right back, something Jol would have never done and something I am suprised but happy Ramos is doing.

Ramos has also played a 3-4-3 at one point, something Jol never did, even when losing at the closing stages of a game.

I liked Jol but he was far more conventional than Ramos has been and right now anything is better than what we have been doing so unconventional is a huge improvement if you ask me.

I am not for sure if that is what you meant by not knowing what Jol was going to do but I thought that is what the first poster was saying.

Except he's pretty much using the same players he saw play his Seville side twice and who in all honesty did more than enough to beat his seville side twice.

He's proabbaly as perplexed as us and Jol at why the same bunch of players are so exceptionally inaccraute infront of either goal this season.

We should combine them. Jol sets the team up to get a lead and then second half Ramos changes it to prevent a collapse.
Jol 1st half + Ramos 2nd half = a clean sweep of all competitions.

Jol gets to do the post match interviews and pre-match press conferences though.
