Defensive: Robbo didnt have much to do, couldnt do anything with the goal. seems solid, more confident than before.
Dawson was by far the best defender, followed by Lee. Chimbo let Petrov make too many crosses, Kaboul was decent defensively.

Zokora and Jenas did not work good together, and especially in the first half their was an enormous gap in the middle. Zoko keeps making wrong choices about which balls to chase, and is actually very slow at running home from time to time.

Malbranque shows great character and made a lot of tackles and interceptions. Think the main reason for us attacking twice as much on the left side is that Malbranque and Lee make a lot more interceptions and tackles than Lennon/Chimbo.

Offensively: dreadful first half. Kaboul's passing awful.
But the worst thing was the movement. Now, I watch it on the telly, so anyone that was there feel free to correct me, but I saw literally no movement at all in the first half. And when Jenas and Zoko are sitting deep we really struggle with creating chances.

Malbranque was good, very solid display. Gets good support by Lee, who then spoils everything cos hes got no offensive abilities. Lennon looked a threath all night. berba was looking sharp, Bent has no confidence at all, but at least he made some good runs (until he fell over..)

Defoe and Boateng both played really good after they came on - especially Boateng. Many of the players looked off the pace and low on confidence, but he really seems to have the right attitude. Looked very, very promising - will be a hit in the premiership!

Ramos: was shocked when he took of Lennon, but it really paid off!

neither did I mate. It was woeful - as bad as England under Eriksson and McLaren. Static players, no options - leading to long ball after long ball. Thank goodness for Berbatov (and to a lesser extent Steed) - he was the only player with ideas early on (it scares me to think about what we will do if he goes). Hearteningly, the off the ball movement did improve as the game went on.

Interestingly, I watched Football First and it's amazing how this problem hardly came across or got mentioned in the programme. I guess the 30 minutes they cut out was our players standing around static looking clueless.

It's so amusing to see Dawson given consistently better marks than Kaboul for that game. And the reason Kaboul is supposedly marked down? Poor distribution! Ha, I take it you've never seen clubfoot Dawson banging it forward to no one in particular at any given opportunity.

I swear I must watch a different game sometimes.

there will be a backlash against the backlash soon and Kaboul will be hailed as the most underrated defender at the club.. then the backlash against the backlash against the backlash... etc etc

I think considering the very public dropping on 2 occasions + the hauling off at half time on a futher 3 occasions and the subsequent media and forum cruifixion of him as a player, he did well yesterday. Despite his shakey moments he was much more solid than most of his previous performances AND under more pressure as an individual than anyone else on the picth.

If all that wasn't enough he then had to play through an obvious "atmosphere" created by his own fans....I'm not surpirsed he chose to clear the ball on more occasions that we would have liked.

I feel guilty by proxy.

agree. I would also say that Kaboul's poor passing was because he was trying to create something given that there was little creativity and the crowd would moan everytime another square pass at the back was made. Thats why we would see him start to carry the ball forward then wen the time came to make a pass he didnt really have anywhere to go.

Dawson on the other hand looks up, sees a player on the left marked, and then still tries to launch a miracle ball which inevitably gets cut out.

Thats another point that really pisses me off.
Some (clueless) fans just scream at our players if they pass sideways or backwards (like Carrick always did) and shout out ''just kick it forward''. Its so embarrassing, cos when we do hit it long the same muppets then scream at that player for losing possession.

Firts and most simple rule in football - keep possession and the opposition cannot score.

So what if we pass backwards, as long as we keep the ball eventually a chance will be created.

They were both woeful in distribution, but Kaboul's stood out more because we hate him more. Derrr. :duh:

In all seriousness, though, if the option is mindless early hoof forwards or dither and get caught in possession, I know which I'd choose for ol' Younes.

And in reflection his defending was a lot better. I'd say it would have been pretty embarassing for him to be subbed off for 3 games in a row at half-time.

His confidence is on the floor, so he needs the pick-ups. I have to soberly admit that I was increasing frustrated at the aimlessness of some of the balls over the top, but all-in-all I'd much rather that was a problem rather than the other things.

A couple of points from reading this, and other, threads on yesterday's game...

- anyone who doesn't have Steed as MOTM for the game is just plain wrong.
- Bent wasn't great BUT he isn't a target man. Every time we had position, we would boot it up the pitch and give it away...madness.
- The fans are very nervous (understandably) and this is rubbing off on the players. It was almost embarrassing hearing people pleading for the final whistle. Although i haven't seen all the other home games this year!!
- The defence played solidly, all half a point above average. A bit more for Pascal as he won me money for 1st goalscorer!!

If you wanted to see some really awful aimless hoofing upfield on Sunday, Touré was yer man. Also, a really clumsy and needless challenge in the box before the game had barely got going.

Dawson = I've got the ball at my feet so I'll kick it out for a throw every time i get it so people will clap.

Kaboul = I'm a footballer, I'll try and play the striker. Oh. Why isn't he moving? Oh that's right. Berbatovs infallible.

As an addendum, I'd just like to say how encouraging Boateng looked. Not from a footballing contribution (generally) more a "I'm gonna get on with this, and stir things up" kinda way. He looked keen to get us back into the game that was slowly drifting - and that's encouraging along with passing to the right team  (which was sadly lacking on occasions).

Hi ollie I made Berbs MOTM - :) I thought he was a joy to watch and on a different level to anyone else on the pitch - though I do understand why some people would give the nod to Steed

It's just I love class players like Berbs - it's like when Hodd played for us - for me most games he was MOTM just cos of his sheer 'Hodness' :)

Robinson 6: Didn't have much to do. Had no chance with their goal

Chimbonda 6: Dealt with Petrov well all game. Much better than against Anderlect. Scored an offside goal.

Dawson 6: Played well.

Kaboul 6: Best game in a Spurs shirt. Dealt with dangerous balls well by hitting row Z. Never over played in defence.

Lee 6: Had a torrid time dealing with their RW in the 1st half. Was good in the second half.

Jenas 5: Missed a decent chance. Gave the ball away in good attacking opportunities.

Lennon 5: Did nothing much. Looked good 2 minutes before being subbed.

Zokora 6: Played better than usual.

Malbranque 7: Awesome defending and attacking most of the game. Rarely lost possession.

Berbatov 7: Different class in the 1st half. Wasn't as good in the 2nd, but still showed his class.

Bent 4: Abysmal. At fault for their goal. Missed a 1on1 early on. Played with no composure all game.

Boateng 5: looked lively did ok.

Defoe 6: Came on and scored - gg.
