So would I. But I don't pick teams in these threads to guess what poch is gonna do.

Much more interesting to see tactical idea in these, generally, for me.

So you're basically picking a team and formation that has zero chance of being the one that starts Saturday, to debate whether it could tactically win the game or not?

I post what I'd like to see. Been doing it since these threads began.

My preference is three at the back. I’d definitely go with Alderweireld for this game. I’d also go Wanyama over Dier and rotate full backs.
Tough on Son, but he is a great option from the bench.
Subs: Vorm, Aurier, Rose, Dier, Lamela, Lucas, Son

Would love to see Toby back but can't help but think Poch wouldn't rush him.

I'd rather Wanyama in there but especially with him being rested tonight, I can't see Dier not playing. He's an absolute ever present, irrespective of form.

Can’t see Toby starting again so soon. He’ll be on a recovery schedule for next few days at minimum. Too big of a game and too early for him imo.

Save him for Juventus.

Lloris
Trippier Sanchez Verts Davies
Dier Dembele
Eriksen Dele Son
Kane

Subs Vorm Aurier Rose Waynama Winks Lamela Moura

With all the team back don't think Dier deserves a start tbh, been sluggish lately
This is not true.

He was outstanding against United, and aside from flicking at the ball and causing the Liverpool goal, he was largely composed and decent at Anfield.

he's been much better than Sanchez recently and over the course of the season, yet gets triple the criticism.

Anyway, my preferred team:

Lloris
Aurier - Dier - Vertonghen - Davies
Wanyama - Dembele
Eriksen - Dele - Son
Kane

Vorm - Trippier - Sanchez - Wanyama - Winks - Lamela - Lucas
The main decision for me is Sanchez or Wanyama. Sanchez, despite being dreadful at Anfield, has the pace to match PEA, while Wanyama is a more mobile, physical presence in the middle of the park where we can bully them given the powderpuff nature of Ozil, Xhaka, Mkh etc. I went with Wanyama because I think that the game can really be won in midfield, and Sanchez really has been poor, and was ok but not great against PEA in the Dortmund games.

Alderweireld not on the bench either after playing 90 in midweek. Hamstrings have to be carefully managed when returning from a long term strain and I think it would be prudent to be conservative with Toby so that he's available for the Juve game where I think he will be super important. Give him a full week to recover from his first 90 after injury.

Tripps has been good, but I prefer the extra pace of Aurier against these guys. That could go either way though and I'm not fussed which one plays.

Other than that the side picks itself. Hopefully we see a nice 20-30 minute cameo from Lucas.

Back three all day for me. They have weapons in that front line and we need to be at our best to nullify them.

I'd go full counter on em

Lloris
Toby Sanchez Verts
Trippier Dier Dembele Davies
Eriksen
Kane Son

Seems like if we have a meritocracy, then this side should continue their good work. While the first half against Liverpool left a bit to be desired, the transformation to midfield dominance and quicker passing was fantastic. I'll be surprised if this isn't it.

It’s quite clear to me that Wanyama is the best option for defensive midfield, over Dier. Dier seems much more of a centre back in his play. His passing is also that of a defender and not a midfielder, which I often think can stifle our attacks.

Wanyama has to play. I don't know what's going on with Dier but we need to win this match and that's on wanyama.
