Barca were really susceptible to the high press when they played against Girona. If we can play with intensity from the first minute I'm confident we can win.

I agree. Thing is, we haven't really done that in over half a year.

The problem is I suspect they would have been taking a game against Girona a lot less seriously than against us.

If we press too high we run the risk of getting absolutely mullered on the counter attack.

Well they had 10 men most of the match.

personally would like a back 3 but I don't think we can risk Dier in a big match atm, and isn't Jan injured?

He might be safer there than in midfield and it would allow a three man central defence. This would help out with Trippier's positional weakness. We could use Winks and Wanyama in midfield, Rose and Trippier as wing-backs, and a front three of Kane, Son and Moura. Bring Lamela on for Moura later on to apply the press for defence.

Such a shame this game has ben ruined for us by injuries. Will be a very very long night with us barely having the ball.

Why do I keep seeing people putting Lamela on the left?

He is an inverted right-sided midfield where he can cut in or can play centrally in number 10 role.

He does not play on the left side and if ever has been put there in one of Poch's crazy moments he is ineffective there. I know they don't stick to positions in-game but they still need to be starting in a position they are comfortable with.

Re: Eriksen we can play quite well without him as at end of season before last when we were steam rolling teams we played a 3-4-2-1 with Dele and Son behind Kane and tonked someone (either Hull or Leicester I think). That's not to say I don't rate his importance; he is our best creative midfield player and Barcelona are a much different kettle of fish to the two teams I mentioned, but we do have Lamela who can slot in centrally.

I think it's more about confidence in the team at present and quite a few of them shattered from world cup still rather than we lack creativity because Eriksen is missing.

Winks on form can also do a nice job from deep, but it's about getting his confidence and form back.

Wanyama was also so, so important to our very effective 3-4-2-1 where we played some of the best football under Poch.

Bit different in a 3-4-2-1. More interchangeable and will be taking up more central positions like a 10 as more width provided by the wing backs.
