I don't think that's certain at all. Part of the advantage it's given us is that's it's caught teams off guard. I think Poch's aim is to gain a tactical advantage and make the opposition uncertain what formation we'll play.
Agreed that it's not certain. Dele and Eriksen make it work, and Rose and Walker are clearly very important. Lose any one of them, and I think we need to consider a flat back four.

seems to be a straight Wimmer for Jan swap --- tough injury though - Super Jan has been fantastic

Was Wimmer on the bench today, if so why didn't Poch opt for him?

Let's discuss it @DJS

Which one has experience playing in a back 3 already? Starting in Euro 2016 for a semi-final team? Which one can't get into the starting 11 for his national team?

Which one just scored his first goal for the club and helped keep a clean sheet?

Which one has had more playing time this year and has done well in those minutes?

Which one made the matchday squad ahead of his competition and played well when called upon?

Think I'd trust Wimmer more than Davies although splitting hairs really, came into the team and did well last season in Jan's absence plus when Rose is rested for re cup and midweek matches I'd prefer it if we called upon a fresh Davies for those matches.

Which one replaced vertonghon last season when he was injured, and we looked better defensively.

Not disputing that. I liked how well he played last year. But there's a big difference between last year and this year.

Henry and Redknapp were talking as if Davies is our back for Vertonghen. Shows how much they know. Davies was on the bench today because he can cover CB and LB but Wimmer is by far the better CB.

Team for City - same as today with Wimmer most likely in for Vertonghen.

I think he preferred Davies on the bench as he can do the LCB role and LWB (although in a game like today's you'd think GKN would be a more like for like replacement with Rose :D)

Certainly didn't need both on the bench and Davies wins out on flexibility IMO.

Long term replacement (hopefully not too long) I wouldn't like to say...

I think the key to being LCB or RCB in a three is being comfortable on the ball and being able to step into midfield. One of the reasons we look so good with the system is because we have 3 CBs which are good on the ball. This is the main reason why David Luiz looks like a much better player at Chelsea the second time around. Watching Leicester try to play the system with their 'less technically gifted' CBs underlines this.

Because of this I would prefer Davies at LCB rather than Wimmer. In a back 4 I don't think that there's a debate - Wimmer steps in for Jan every time but I prefer Davies in a three. He's more mobile and more comfortable on the ball.
