I would try to field the strongest possible against Brighton to ensure a big win. Nicking a point of Shitty would be the icing. We'll not catch Shitty, make sure we don't drop any points against Brighton.

Either:

532 (Defend 541)

oboiQ9w.jpg

Vorm, Tripps, Dier, Dembele, Sissoko, Alli, GKN

or

433 (Defend 451)

NjQ5Rmc.jpg

Vorm, Tripps, Davies, Dier, Dembele, Sissoko, GKN

We need Foyth's recovery pace for this, imo. Sane is no joke.

Play with high intensity. Counter with fury. They'll give us space.

Let them fear our weapons.

What are you thinking ??

Foyth in defence and Winks Lamela and Eriksen as the central three??

We need to be more solid

City don't rough it with you, they play around you.

in doing so they leave huge spaces everywhere and really don't care because they know they're likely to just score more than you anyway.

If we play for a draw we'll lose.

Go for it.

Attack definitely the best form of defense against this lot.

Think Son and Kane could get a couple.

Problem is they'll get a couple as well.

Yeah, it'd be a straight shoot-out; but I think we'd fare better that way in this particular fixture.

Play them at their own game - attack, attack, attack!

Sustained high intensity is a must.

Has to be 3 at back.
3-5-2
Dier vertonghen Davies
Trip lamela winks eriksen Rose
Kane Son

Was considering dembele for Lamela. But think this is all but quick transition on counter and dembele will slow that down.
Don’t know if anybody is remembering this but the last time we played City in the league we started with 3 in the back. They destroyed us in the first half and went up 2-0. We switched back to our back 4 in the second and miraculously got a 2-2 draw. It really was our impetus for scraping the back 3 last year and switching to a back 4 full time. We just match up better with them in a back 4 playing them man for man.

Lloris
Aurier Dier Vertongen Rose
Dembele Winks
Lamela Eriksen Son
Kane

Lamela for Alli in this one. His intensity and energy will be needed here. Aurier & Rose match up better with Sane & Sterling than Davies & Trippier do. Their ability to fly down the wings will also be crucial to counter them.

...need physicality and athleticism in this one - should start Aurier, Sissoko, Rose, and Dembele...

We got to play City with same formation as Real Madrid - 5 at the back while defending & 3 while attacking...

We need players who can hold on to ball & have the composure.
United played long balls to a striker who cant hold & linkup while when they won the ball, had no one having composure to take control of possession & hit them on break.

I would pick Winks & Dembele for this reason. They would give us better chance of making good use of the ball & feed the front 3.

If there is a team who can beat City tactically thats us. Such a shame we are missing Toby & Wanyama. But even without them, we can give them a run for their money

My XI :

Lloris
Dier, Vertonghen, Davies
Aurier, Winks, Dembele, Rose
Eriksen, Kane, Son

3/5 at the back is the way to go against this City team, condense the space in and around the box.

This isn't really true of City this season. They are pressing so effectively it's very hard to expose the space behind their midfield and fullbacks. Chelsea, United just couldn't break their press and ended up just hoofing balls forward. Liverpool were the closest ones to doing it before Mane got sent off, but it is is very, very hard to do.

That may have worked if we had everybody healthy and off suspension. However, Sanchez is still suspended for this game. Alderweild & Wanyama are still hurt. We don’t have the personnel to do that right now. Coming out swinging and pressing them with 4 in the back is the way to go. Make them defend as much as possible. They don’t like that. That’s what Liverpool was doing to them before Mane got sent off and they got destroyed. They looked better than anyone this year against them until that happened. Also, everybody has tried to sit back, pack the box and counter them this year. It’s resulted in 14 straight wins. It simply doesn’t work. That’s what they want you to do. It plays right into their hands.

Fair but we've countered and pressed against teams like City who have strong firepower up front, I don't think anyone has been as effective in countering like we have in the Prem this season. Also we haven't been pressing that well in games this season regardless, we looked a bit better against Stoke but there's certainly been a noticeable drop off from whe we played City last season for example. You cite Wanyama being injured but he's a player who normally is able to aid the press as well, also I don't see why playing 3 at the back wouldn't work without Sanchez, I mean we're gonna be sitting deep anyway so it's not as if we'll need his pace. I think we need the 5 in there whether it'll be Davies/Foyth as a 3rd CB personally.

As a side note. Vertonghen is on 4 bookings. If he plays tomorrow, which I think he will and is booked he will miss the Man City game.

Yep...But we cant do anything about it. We dont have spare CBs to take his place. Brighton 3 points is same as City's.

We need to beat Brighton first then worry bout the next game. Right now we need wins against teams we 'should' beat and worry about others then. Against City it is a case of who is fit, in form and ready for the game

Press em like last year. We tried three at the back away from home last year and looked hopeless, try to get some superiority in the midfield.

4-2-3-1/4-3-3

Lloris, Trippier, Dier, Vert, Davies, Winks, Dele, Eriksen, Sissoko, Son, Kane.

Sissoko loves a big game put him against Delph, Sonny to go man for man on Walker.
